The Fans Occupy Raw (March 10, 2014)
The miracle on Bourbon Street is still a highlight of WrestleMania history and Daniel Bryan's career. The Monday Night Raw that set up that historic evening is one of the true highlights of its era. The show was packed full of stars, advanced a few key stories, announced a new gimmick match, and had one of the most intriguing segments ever. It was fresh, and the crowd in person was fired up for the evening's happenings. That momentum carries throughout the show and into WrestleMania 30.
The main event had Randy Orton and Batista teaming up once again to try and stunt Daniel Bryan's momentum. The Wyatt family was building an incredible feud with John Cena, with a lackluster end, accentuated by how great this and their other segments were. The Shield put on an entertaining match while both The Undertaker and Hulk Hogan made appearances on the show. It moved a lot of pieces into place for WrestleMania while still drawing in the stars and stories that make the road to WrestleMania so compelling.
Midway through the show was the now iconic Occupy Raw segment. Daniel Bryan had the fans support his challenge for The Authority and Triple H. They swarmed the ring as security tried to keep the peace before it all devolved into chaos, and Triple H gave in to Bryan's demands. This segment perfectly encapsulates not just that year in WWE but that entire era. Fans desperately wanted their preferred stars to get a prominent spot, and it simply never happened. Seeing the fans, regardless of whether they were planted or not, gave voice to years of frustration and made for a must-see moment on a pretty good Raw on the Road to WrestleMania. It would go on to become the catalyst for his feel-good win in New Orleans.
