Red Velvet is finding success in Ring of Honor
The discourse around Ring of Honor usually focuses on how the show doesn’t feel important. While those opinions may be valid, they aren’t the full truth as well. The show has helped shine a spotlight on women’s wrestling, giving several performers the opportunity to stand out. One of those is Red Velvet who has seen a substantial amount of growth while being in ROH.
Red Velvet has been a part of All Elite Wrestling since 2020 and was a central piece in the early presentation of the show. At the time, she was four years into her professional career and seen as a potential enhancement talent for other women the company wanted to get over.
Along the way, she continued to develop and it was the run with Jade Cargill that helped cement her as a valuable part of the roster. Since then, she’s blossomed into one the company can count on and she continues to show that while being in ROH.
She and Queen Aminata are one of the best acts in women’s wrestling today. While many fans wanted to see both holding championships, Velvet picking up the ROH Women’s World Television Championship at Death Before Dishonor was a huge, but welcome surprise. She’s the exact type of performer who can not only help elevate the status of that title with a strong run, but that title helps build her legitimacy as a threat in the future. There’s a saying that “the man makes the title, the title doesn’t make the man,” but this seems to be an example in which both are possible.
Red Velvet is an example of how shows like Ring of Honor and WWE NXT to an extent should be used. While the main roster shows were stacked with talent and lacking in time, being moved to ROH gives her the space to perform and grow. That growth has led to her becoming a strong title holder in the mid-card with the potential to further grow into a main event performer. There’s excitement about what is to come for her and that is a testament to what she’s achieved in the last few months.
