WWE NXT is headed for a major premiere on Tuesday, October 2. The show is kicking off its start on the CW Network. As champions tend to lead the way during these transitions, it is clear that Shawn Michaels is hanging his cowboy hat on Roxxane Perez. She continues to shine in this position and remains one of the most consistent performers in all of professional wrestling.

When October 2 starts, Perez will enter her 178th day as NXT Women’s Champion. She’s held that belt a combined 286 days. It’s a run that is not without its criticism, but one that has certainly elevated Perez as a performer in the business. Her latest heel turn, character development, and the matches she delivered were among some of the best offerings available in WWE. Michaels saw so much in her that he firmly placed much of the show around her, even if she wasn’t directly in the main event. All of this and Perez is only 22 years old.

She heads into the CW premiere with a massive challenge standing across from her in Giulia. The multiple-time champion from Japan comes with a wealth of hype behind her. Expectations are that Perez will drop the title, opening the door for the WWE women’s division to shift toward the incoming talent while Perez prepares for the inevitable call up to the main roster.

Whether that is the outcome or not, it’s important to recognize that Perez is the best women’s champion that WWE has put forth in at least the last year. Think about some of the biggest complaints that hit her peers on the main roster. Liv Morgan versus Rhea Ripley is a feud in which the championship is a background prop. That’s not the case for Perez. Bayley was reluctantly overshadowed as champion, even though she’s one of the most loved performers on the roster. Nia Jax has been doing well with the championship but seems to be a holding place for Tiffany Stratton’s eventual rise. Perez consistently felt like one of, if not the, main focal points in WWE NXT for much of the last two years. And each step of the way, she’s proven that she belongs in this spot.

There’s a lot of excitement about the changes to come as WWE NXT makes an important shift to a new network. Roxanne Perez has played a vital part in this show’s growing popularity. Regardless of what happens on October 1, Perez has proved that she’s the best WWE women’s champion in recent history and will take the main roster by storm when she gets that opportunity.
