Sheamus should get one last big run
When Sheamus first broke into the WWE main roster in June 2009, he was in his early 30s and was somewhat later than most newcomers. However, he was not like most superstars as he strapped himself to a rocket and propelled his way to the top by becoming the first Irish-born WWE Champion within six months of his debut.
He won three more world championships over the next five years, with his short WWE title reign in 2015 being the last. Since then, WWE cooled off on Sheamus as a world title contender but kept him relevant in the mid-card and tag team title picture.
With new talent coming into the picture, Sheamus had to take the back seat and play a supporting role to the next generation, but at no point held himself back from putting on bangers after bangers. He's 46 years old at this point, and he might not have many years left as an in-ring performer, which makes now the right time for WWE to consider doing one last big run with The Celtic Warrior.
It might not happen any time soon, but the post-WrestleMania 41 season sounds like the perfect time to reintroduce Sheamus into the world title picture. He was one of the best rivals of John Cena throughout the latter's career, and fans could indeed see a match between the two in Cena's upcoming retirement tour. WWE could use that as the stage for Sheamus' resurgence as a main eventer.
Some could argue WWE should consider Sheamus to dethrone Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. But the chances of that happening are slim, as CM Punk, Ilja Dragunov, Bron Breakker, and even John Cena are already the rumored names in contention for that spot.
Triple H is already receiving backlash for losing Bobby Lashley to AEW and could receive more criticism if he continued to favor pushing new talent and keeping veterans like Sheamus away from the main event storylines. After what looked like the culmination of his feud against Pete Dunne on the Raw after Bad Blood, Sheamus is currently in contention for the WWE Speed Championship, which is something he does not need to do at this stage of his career. It's the same situation when WWE had Jeff Hardy chase after the 24/7 Championship.
Sheamus' last world title opportunity came inside the Elimination Chamber at the titular PLE in 2021, and it's been over eight years since he received a one-on-one world title opportunity. Sheamus has been a team player all these years, doing what he was told to do, and still managed to put on some of the most physically demanding matches of all time. It's time WWE rewards The Celtic Warrior for the loyalty and professionalism he showed them throughout the years with one last run as world champion before he takes his rightful place in the Hall of Fame.
