Toni Storm and Mariah May should have main evented AEW Revolution 2025

Tony Khan may give non-answers to the question, but the only correct one was that Toni Storm and Mariah May was the best match to close the show.

As this piece is coming together, just about 24 hours have passed since AEW Revolution 2025. It was one of the best nights of professional wrestling. A near-perfect show. Except for that main event. Tony Khan made a mistake not booking the first women’s PPV main event that night. Toni Storm and Mariah May put on a show that should have ended all the shows. It was a spectacular showcase and miles beyond what fans saw go on last.

When Toni Storm draped herself over Mariah May to pick up the victory in their Hollywood Ending Match, the only way to respond was to give them a standing ovation. It was the perfect send-off to what has been one of the best stories in all professional wrestling. They battled for nearly 13 minutes, the second shortest match on the card, but it was packed with energy, emotion, and story.

The same couldn’t be said for Jon Moxley defeating both Christian Cage and Cope in the main event. The match was already bad enough when it was just one 51-year-old challenging for the title, but a second was thrown in to take things over the top. Cage jumped into the match for about 3 minutes before being tapped out by a bulldog choke. It was a horrible booking decision to protect a performer who shouldn’t be protected. There was nothing positive to take away from this match, and fans were rightly denigrating it before the first bell.

Toni Storm versus Mariah May was the only choice to main event the show

Sadly, Tony Khan couldn’t even admit the error of his ways, which is frequently the case. When asked about it during the post-show press conference, Khan gave his typical non-answer.

“There were a lot of matches that could have been the main event tonight, including any of the last four, and that’s why I really called it a big closing for because I really felt like okay, these final matches to go, to say these are all going to be huge matches with massive significance,” Khan said.

A whole lot of words, with little substance. Fans have long wanted to see a women’s match main event an AEW PPV. There have been a few matches that have been booked with the layered storytelling seen between Toni Storm and Mariah May. For the past year they’ve told a story with easter eggs, twists, turns, and excellent matches along the way. Those women put together the perfect close to a feud and it should have main evented the evening. With a simple roll credits to lean completely into the gimmick.

All Elite Wrestling is heading into its sixth year of existence. Yet, Tony Khan still avoids answering the hard questions when it comes to the booking of the women’s division. AEW Revolution 2025 was a perfect opportunity to give two women the top spot but he elected not to. Hopefully, that will change in the future.
