TNA Rumors: What’s True About These CM Punk Rumors?

More from Rumors

CM Punk has been practically invisible in the wrestling world since he quit WWE earlier this year. He hasn’t looked to associate himself with any company or even speak about it to the media. While this is still the case, it was reported a few days ago by the Wrestling News Observer that Punk was made an offer by TNA to wrestle for them.

"TNA recently made a play for CM Punk. This was done similar to how they reached out to Alberto Del Rio, through an intermediary who is friends with Punk. The idea pitched was said to be a huge deal for Punk to be the top star of the company with pay similar to what Hulk Hogan was making. The idea is that Punk could be TNA’s flagship star and if he signs now, he could help get a strong TV deal.Punk reportedly expressed no interest in working in pro wrestling again."

It wouldn’t be a surprise if this was believable since, as noted above, they made a similar push for Alberto Del Rio in August when WWE released him.

Now there’s a dispute going on about if this story is true. PWInsider.com shot down Dave Meltzer’s claim and he would go onto fire back, stating that there’s no chance this isn’t true.

"It was reported on Wednesday by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that TNA, through an intermediary who is friends with CM Punk, made a big money offer to him just like they did to Alberto Del Rio following his departure from WWE in August. After the story broke, PWInsider.com contacted ‘several high level TNA sources’ and each of them said there was no truth to the story, with one commenting, “No offer was made, officially or via an intermediary—no truth to that rumor.” Meltzer maintains the story is legitimate and adds that Punk showed “no real interest” in TNA’s offer. In response to PWInsider.com refuting his story, Meltzer wrote on the F4WOnline.com message board, “The other story is obviously true and I didn’t think it was that big a deal since he showed no real interest. Look at common sense. You’re trying to make a TV deal. There is a free agent out there who is one of the biggest stars and you’re denying contact with him? In other words, are you saying you’re an incompetent promotion? It was how many minutes after Del Rio got fired that they tried to get in touch with him? But they didn’t as least try to contact Punk while trying to close a deal?”"

Well, someone in this situation is either lying or there was false information given.

If this is true, it isn’t much of a surprise that Punk wouldn’t have interest in joining TNA. He has looked to stay as far away from wrestling as possible with doing work for Nerdist at the San Diego Comic Con in July and not speaking a word about his departure from WWE. However, that hasn’t meant that his name wouldn’t be tied with his former employer. It seems like he’s in the news with them on a weekly basis.

Punk also does not seem like the type of person that would join TNA. He has always looked to advance to bigger and better things throughout his wrestling career and joining Dixie Carter’s company would be a step back for the former WWE Superstar. To me, it’s either a long-shot return to WWE or bust for him. He won’t go anywhere else.

The CM Punk controversy is nowhere near complete. It has been going on since January, but this still feels like we’re just getting started.
