Roman Reigns Will Turn on Dean Ambrose at WWE Elimination Chamber

WWE Elimination Chamber could be the end of the Dean Ambrose – Roman Reigns alliance.

This Sunday at WWE Elimination Chamber, Dean Ambrose is set to face Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Title. This will be Ambrose’s first one-on-one match with Rollins for the title.

Before we get into the match, Cageside Seats noted earlier today that a “big surprise” is in the works for Elimination Chamber. Usually a swerve happens in the main event. Given how Ambrose vs. Rollins is getting the hype over the Elimination Chamber matches, this would be where we see the surprise.

How would WWE be able to insert a surprise into this match, though? The assumption has been Rollins will hold the title until at least SummerSlam.

Could he drop the belt? If it wasn’t for the angle on the Raw after WrestleMania 31 with Brock Lesnar, this would be a possibility.

The other option is a surprise outside interference during the match or afterwards. Someone who is aligned with the champion or the challenger would their ally the match.

If we stick with Rollins retaining the WWE WHC, that would mean Ambrose loses via some type of distraction. As seen on WWE TV, the announcers keep hyping up Roman Reigns as his ally and friend. Reigns has helped Ambrose in multiple occasions, often saving him from The Authority. We’ve seen this storyline used in WWE before and it seems like that’s the road we’re heading down.

WWE Creative has been booking The Lunatic Fringe to near perfection. He received an upset victory over Rollins to get into the main event of WWE Payback. From there Ambrose received a very strong build and when many thought that would result in him being pinned, his performance arguably stole the match.

After that, Ambrose challenged Rollins for the WWE WHC at Elimination Chamber, which is now official. It will headline the PPV. While this is not the former CZW star’s first WWE PPV main event match, it will be his first one-on-one for the top title. This is a result of WWE clearly backing and pushing him because he’s entertaining and the most popular among the fans.

Throughout this time we’ve seen the friendship of Reigns and Ambrose highlighted. They have been working as a team to take on Rollins and The Authority. However, the theme of late has been Reigns coming to save the day for Ambrose. What could this result in?

Given how The Authority gets booked, we will likely see Ambrose get an edge on Rollins, only for J&J Security and Kane to interfere. As they are beating down The Lunatic Fringe, out comes Reigns, who clears the ring. As the two former Shield members are celebrating, Reigns will club Ambrose from behind and spear him into the ground to leave fans shocked and close the show.

The question will be if Reigns aligns himself with The Authority. From a storyline stand point, it makes no sense. Why would Reigns join forces with two men who he’s defeated multiple times in Big Show (whenever he returns) and Kane? Why should Reigns team with Rollins nearly one year to the day after the latter destroyed The Shield?

Since WWE tends to leave obvious loopholes in their storylines, seeing Reigns align himself with The Authority wouldn’t be a shocker. Take Big Show as an example. Remember throughout the fall of 2013 when he had a main event feud with the stable only to join them out of nowhere one year later? We never received much of an explanation for this on TV.

The moral of this is WWE either unknowingly or doesn’t mind leaving holes in their storylines. Unfortunately if Reigns does join The Authority, we may never get a real reason for it. Instead, having them stay one-on-one with the motive behind the rivalry being Reigns exhausted with saving Ambrose, then it makes more sense. This just doesn’t seem realistic, though, with WWE continuing to make The Authority main event-relevant despite having overstayed their welcome.

It looks like we could be heading to a messy finish to the WWE Elimination Chamber PPV this Sunday on the WWE Network. If it’s Roman Reigns turning on Dean Ambrose, it definitely will be a shocker given the path of these two for the past calendar year.
