WWE: Time for the Lucha Dragons to Split

The Lucha Dragons are starting to be lost in the shuffle of the revamped tag team division in WWE. Now might be the time for the two to split and have a feud for the United States Championship.

When a tag team has one member showing more potential than the other, it’s likely that keeping the two superstars together will only limit both of their futures. In regards to the Lucha Dragons, it’s obvious that Kalisto is going to receive a push similar to Rey Mysterio in the 2000s; this would require splitting up with Sin Cara.

This might seem like a weird idea considering that we are finally seeing some depth in the tag team division, but the WWE is going to be fine with this team being done since the Vaudevillains, Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady were called up from the NXT development brand. So losing the Lucha Dragons isn’t going to have as big of an impact than it would have a few months ago.

The perfect storyline is waiting for the WWE creative team to run with; one that will help promote the United States Championship that Kalisto is currently holding. Sin Cara hasn’t really been the main attraction for the tag team, since the smaller cruiserweight has been the one to get fans excited with his high-flying abilities. And there might be some jealousy with his tag partner having won gold on the main roster before him.

The two have had unsuccessful attempts to win the WWE Tag Team Championship before Sin Cara had to take time off at the beginning of the year with a shoulder injury. This led to Kalisto challenging Alberto Del Rio for the United States Championship and won to begin a singles feud with Del Rio.

Since then, Kalisto has sort of been a singles star while occasionally teaming up with Sin Cara. Maybe the veteran might start to tire about being in Kalisto’s shadow and it could be that the WWE might have started planting the seeds recently for a breakup and feud between the two Lucha Dragons.

Last Monday showed the two competing in the first round of the tag team tournament against the Dudley Boyz. Early in the match, Kalisto was sent outside the ring and seemingly hit his head and neck hard on the floor. While he received medical attention, Sin Cara tried to take on both Bubba Ray and D-Von on his own, but to no avail.

While it seems that Kalisto is not seriously injured based on social media posts from Kalisto, there’s a good chance we could eventually see Sin Cara start to show a little bit of frustration in the coming weeks as the two continue to struggle in the tag team division. Maybe Sin Cara decides to try and go the route of Shawn Michaels and dump the United States Champion.

This would only help improve Kalisto’s push as a singles star while also providing a good storyline to focus around the United States Championship, which would feel like a win-win situation in the eyes of some WWE fans. Titles need to have a good storyline in an attempt to feel important – like the rivalry between Kalisto and Del Rio a few months ago.

Kalisto likely won’t be dropping the belt to Sin Cara anytime soon, but the hope would be that the two know each other well enough to be able to put on an entertaining lucha-style bout for the fans to see at Payback or Extreme Rules.
