Sami Zayn’s WWE SummerSlam Absence Makes No Sense

With an absolutely stacked card already in line for SummerSlam, WWE is leaving Sami Zayn off of it.

SummerSlam, as we already know is shaping up to be one of the biggest events WWE will put on this year. With matches like Randy Orton vs Brock Lesnar, John Cena vs AJ Styles, and both the WWE World and Universal titles on the line, why is Sami Zayn seemingly left on the side lines? It’s the biggest party of the summer and Zayn is so far left without an invitation. There is still a week to add him, but with the card as loaded as it is, there doesn’t seem to be much room.

If the underdog from the underground is in fact, left off of the card, WWE would be leaving one of their most popular superstars without a match. Zayn has been a huge draw for WWE and now Monday Night Raw since he was called up from NXT earlier this year. His rivalry with Kevin Owens caused some entertaining drama between the two for many months on end.

Since his match at WWE Battleground last month vs Owens, Zayn has moved towards the back of the line. Yes, he was given a title opportunity on the first Raw after the brand split, and wrestled Seth Rollins in the main event the week after, but nothing to push him towards a match at SummerSlam. He did not even make an appearance on this weeks Raw either.

He may make an appearance at SummerSlam, but all aspects are pointing towards him not competing on August 21st. Zayn is one of the best in-ring performers that WWE has to offer today. It does not matter who Zayn is in the ring with. When he is in the ring, you know you are about to witness an entertaining and otherwise, high-flying match up. It is that type of a match that would be perfect for SummerSlam.

A perfect match up to put Zayn in, if the WWE could find the room, would be to put him in a match versus Neville. Who wouldn’t want to see that? It is a way to push both of these superstars in a new, meaningful direction. These two have a history together dating back all the way to their NXT days. In case anyone forgot, it was Zayn that defeated Neville to win his first and only NXT championship. This could perhaps be the next route WWE can move towards with Zayn and Neville. Neville has been wasted more than Cesaro has in WWE.

One positive fans can take from this, is that SummerSlam is already going to be huge, and that is without Zayn on the card. Perhaps, it is a good sign that the WWE does not need Zayn to put on a great show at the biggest party of the summer. This does show that WWE certainly has the depth to go a long way in the future. Something they certainly lacked just a few short months ago.
