By Mike Smith
At the WWE Night of Champions pay-per-view, Dolph Ziggler puts his Intercontinental Championship on the line against the “Hollywood A-Lister”, The Miz.

This rivalry started in July, at Battleground, when Miz won the Intercontinental Championship in a battle royal, with Ziggler being the last man eliminated. Miz was knocked out of the ring in the middle of the match, but he did not go over the top rope, so he was not eliminated. It was down to Ziggler and Sheamus in the ring, when Ziggler eliminated Sheamus and started to celebrate. Unfortunately for The Showoff, Miz immediately got back in the ring and eliminated him, before Ziggler even had a chance to realize the match wsn’t over yet.
Ziggler chased Miz and the title for the next month, leading to his shocking win at SummerSlam.
The night after SummerSlam, Miz got his rematch on Raw. In that match, Ziggler was counted out, making Miz was the winner, but Ziggler was still champion.
Since then, we have seen Damien Sandow debut as Miz’s stuntman, Damien Mizdow. We have seen R-Truth participate in Ziggler’s mocking of Miz and Mizdow, under the name R-Ziggler.
Ziggler seems ready to be a fighting champion, but Miz will do whatever it takes to win. Who will come out on top at NOC? Here are the predictions from Daily DDT staff members Rob Wolkenbrod, Stephen Ajamie, Brian Rzeppa, Luke Sicari, and Mike Smith:
Rob’s Take: I’ve enjoyed what’s been going on with been Dolph Ziggler and The Miz. It has provided some good, quality comedy instead of what goes on with Adam Rose and the bunny.
That being said, I don’t think WWE will drop the title off of Ziggler. He’s a terrific performer in the ring and having him hold the IC title will make it more relevant than a lot of the other mid-card faces on the roster can do. It will be interesting to see where Miz would go after this.
Rob’s Prediction: Dolph Ziggler
Stephen’s Take: Another feud that I have enjoyed it. I think these guys are pretty friendly in the back, and that’s coming out in how they bring it in the ring. I would like to add a whole different option to this match. I think what would be fantastic is for Sandow to win the title by inserting himself into the match as Miz’s stunt double at some point, and then we can have the Miz, Sandow, and Ziggler all going at it for the title next month or whenever. But if that doesn’t happen, then Ziggler should continue his roll as of late, and keep the title on him.
Stephen’s Prediction: Dolph Ziggler, with Sandow as Plan B
Brian’s Take: I have to admit, I was pretty critical of this angle when it was first introduced. I really didn’t find Miz all that interesting, but he’s playing his role perfectly and the addition of R-Truth and Damien Sandow into this rivalry has made for some entertaining television during a disappointing stretch for WWE as a whole. With Bad News Barrett set to be coming back at any time now, I can’t see them putting the title back on a heel in Miz. I’m taking Ziggler in this one and I, for one, can’t wait to see his matches against BNB.
Brian’s Prediction: Dolph Ziggler
Luke’s Take: Ziggler and Miz have been involved in one of the most entertaining storylines this year. Ziggler and Miz have excellent chemistry in the ring and will look to steal the show, while their ‘stunt doubles’, Damien Mizdow and R-Ziggler, are sure to have an impact on the match.
This match is probably the most difficult to predict on the night but I’m going with Ziggler to retain his championship. Ziggler is without a doubt one of the most over superstars right now and having him drop the belt he only won last month won’t make sense. Having Ziggler hold the title until Bad News Barrett returns, should set up a feud between those two in the future. As for Miz…well I’m sure there will be a movie role waiting for him somewhere.
Luke’s Prediction: Dolph Ziggler
Mike’s Take: The feud between Ziggler and Miz has been really fun. They’re both very talented, and they work extremely well together.
I keep getting the feeling that Miz will win this match, but I’m going to fight that feeling and go with Ziggler. Ziggler is very popular with fans, and even though the company has their reservations about him, some of which are justified, I think they see that enough to keep a midcard title on him.
Mike’s Prediction: Dolph Ziggler
That’s a sweep for Ziggler, 5-0. We have him retaining his title, but what do you think will happen in this one? Let us know in the comment section below.
