WWE Night of Champions Predictions: The Usos vs. Goldust and Stardust for the WWE Tag Team Championship

facebooktwitterreddit

Goldust and Stardust will challenge The Usos for the WWE Tag Team Championship at WWE Night of Champions, this Sunday.

More from WWE

The Usos have held the title since they defeated The New Age Outlaws in early March. They have beaten teams like The Real Americans, and The Wyatt Family along the way.

Goldust and Cody Rhodes were tag team champions until the Royal Rumble this past January, but they were floundering for a couple of months after that. Cody had a change of heart, and personality, as he transformed into Stardust, and their fortunes changed as well.

They got a match for the title a few weeks ago, but Jey Uso was the legal man at the end for The Usos, and he got counted out. Jey had suffered a knee injury, which led to the countout, but Goldust and Stardust thought he did it on purpose, so they attacked The Usos, turning heel in the process.

The two teams will meet at NOC for the title, and Daily DDT staff members Rob Wolkenbrod, Stephen Ajamie, Brian Rzeppa, Luke Sicari, and Mike Smith have some predictions:

Rob’s Take: The heel turn of Gold and Stardust was a little awkward at first, but I have bought into them and enjoy their performances. An extra win or two along the way could have been better, but they are still legitimate competition.

The belts probably should have been off The Usos back in July when they faced Luke Harper and Erick Rowan at Battleground. Their reign has become a little stale and its time for a change. Whether WWE is willing to pull the plug on that remains to be seen, but the Dust Bros. should walk out of Night of Champions being on top of the tag team division.

Rob’s Prediction: Goldust and Stardust

Stephen’s Take: The Dust Brothers probably should win this, which means I’m not going to pick them to win because if I wanted a heel team to win the titles, that would have been The Wyatt Family. And they got a couple of shots at the titles.  Or even bring up The Ascension and have them run with the titles like they did down in NXT.  So as much as I do enjoy Cody and Goldy, they’re not winning the titles on Sunday.

Stephen’s Prediction: The Usos

Brian’s Take: It might just be me, but my support of The Usos is really growing thin. Yes, their matches are always entertaining and a highlight of any show, but their characters just do nothing for me, and it seems like they rarely lose. The team of Goldust and Stardust, on the other hand, has been surprisingly interesting, and refreshing in the case of Cody Rhodes. I think Night of Champions will be the event where they finally capture the “Cosmic Key” and walk out tag team champions.

Brian’s Prediction: Goldust and Stardust

Luke’s Take: Goldust and Stardust have taken off as heels, after multiple attacks after matches and aiming on taking out Jey Uso’s injured knee. This has been the most a tag team title match has been built up in months and has the makings to become one of the matches of the night.

With that being said, expect Goldust and Stardust to capture the championships, or the ‘cosmic key’ as they refer to them, this Sunday. The Usos have simply held the titles way too long and their character is becoming boring and repetitive.

Goldust and Stardust are the hottest team going around right now and they will validate that by beating The Usos.

Luke’s Prediction: Goldust and Stardust

Mike’s Take: We’ve seen the Rhodes boys hold the tag titles before, and they did a great job of it. They were stealing the show every night, and having compelling feuds over the title. The same can be said about this run for The Usos.

I think it would be interesting to see Goldust and Stardust hold the titles, and I think they will do so, thanks to some good timing.

With The Ascension losing their NXT Tag Team Championship at TakeOver: Fatal 4-Way, they seem to be set for an imminent main roster debut. With The Ascension working as heels, they will need a face tag team to feud with, away from the title. The Usos are the perfect candidate.
