WWE Hell in a Cell 2014: What Needs to Happen at the PPV

AJ Lee and Paige have been trading the Divas Championship back and forth since Battleground. You could technically go as far back as the night after WrestleMania XXX, when the British Diva pulled off the shocking upset of defeating AJ for the title in her debut on the main roster.

AJ recently won back the title from Paige at Night of Champions, which means that we are in store for another match between these two at Hell in a Cell later this month. It makes sense because quite frankly, there are no other worthy opponents for the title on the roster. WWE won’t let the stars of Total Divas hold the championship, so that takes out a good chunk of the division. Other than that, there’s Alicia Fox and Layla. While Fox has teamed up with Paige, there’s no chance that WWE is going to give her a reign with the title, given how they’ve portrayed her character on TV.

At the PPV, AJ must drop the title to Paige once again to keep this feud going for another month. As noted above, there are no other worthy contenders, but there is one on the way from NXT – Charlotte. She currently holds the NXT Women’s Championship and has improved greatly over the past few months as champion. Her ring work has been very good and she actually tells a story within a match, something that most performers don’t do anymore. The daughter of Ric Flair’s mic skills have also improved tremendously.

Charlotte is showing that her time in NXT is running out and a call-up would be well-deserved. It’s possible she’ll stay down in Florida until the December NXT Takeover special, when she’ll probably drop the title to either Bayley or Sasha Banks.

Once she’s up on the main roster, a feud for the Divas Championship with either AJ or Paige could happen immediately. It would be a fresh feud that could carry the Divas division through the end of the year and into WrestleMania season. Not seeing this happen would be a major upset.
