Over the past few days, legendary wrestling announcer Jim Ross has been linked to the fairly new promotion Lucha Underground. It was presumed that he would be added to the booth with Matt Striker and Vampiro or replace one of them. It would have made for sense to do Ross and Striker after the success they had together while doing Wrestle Kingdom 9 on January 4.
Earlier today, Wrestling Inc. writer Raj Giri spoke with Ross to discuss how true these reports are. The WWE Hall of Famer would claim that he has not made contact with them.
"“I haven’t had any conversations with Lucha Underground,” Ross said. “The last person I spoke with at Lucha Underground was Matt Striker at WrestleKingdom 9 [earlier this month], and Matt Striker doesn’t hire talent. I haven’t had one phone call, text, fax, whatever with Lucha Underground.”JR admitted that he is open to calling more wrestling shows if the timing and price are right. He also noted that while he hasn’t had any discussions with Lucha Underground, he doesn’t know if his name has come up with company executives.“What Lucha Underground discusses internally, I’m not privy to that. I haven’t had a conversation with anyone there other than [Lucha Underground Co-Executive Producer] Chris DeJoseph on my podcast – which you can listen to soon – and Matt Striker, that’s it. So I don’t know what sort of discussions are ongoing internally at Lucha Underground. We’re sitting here talking and I can tell you that as of right now, my representative has had no conversations with Lucha Underground, and I have had less in that respect.“It would take a very special engagement for me to re-engage with a weekly TV show. I’ve got so many projects that I really enjoy doing. I’m trying to finish my autobiography, which is a major undertaking. I’m doing these one man shows which I dearly love doing. My podcast is growing, which last year was voted one of the top three podcasts of the year. So all I’m thinking about right now is Sayreville and Philly.”"

By Ross saying that he would be open to doing more wrestling shows, maybe this could make Lucha Underground call him up to talk about working together.
Ideally, I would like to see him come back to WWE. He would simply make the broadcasts better than how they’ve been with Michael Cole and company leading the charge. Having Ross call Raw and Cole call SmackDown like the old days wouldn’t be bad at all. However, this is likely just a dream, as WWE and JR haven’t had any contact and probably won’t for who knows how long.
What wrestling promotion would you like to see hire Jim Ross for an event?
