How Seth Rollins Can Save the WrestleMania Main Event
By Jack Crosby
All of the problems at WrestleMania can be solved by one man–Seth Rollins
The main event of WrestleMania 31 has problems, this much we know already. Sure, Paul Heyman on Monday night did his best damage control, but the fact of the matter is that no one is going to accept Roman Reigns walking into Levi’s Stadium on March 29 and walking out as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion–it’s just not gonna happen, plain and simple.
However, with the respect the Philly fans showed on Sunday night, it’s a pretty safe bet to assume that a hostile WrestleMania crowd in Santa Clara, California will absolutely accept Seth Rollins walking out of there with that belt, and that’s exactly what should happen.
Not only can Seth walking out as champion and save the main event of Mania, but it could save WWE for the next few months after.
All of this is a three-part process, and it goes a little something like this…
Part I: Seth vs Randy Orton
Right now the assumption is that Rollins will take on Randy Orton at WrestleMania, which does make all the sense in the world, seeing as he’s the one that put Randy out of commission a few months ago; Randy should absolutely come back and want to beat the tar out of Rollins.
At WrestleMania, you open the show with these two. Randy and Seth start the night off with a bang, putting on what will be remembered as one of the best matches on the card when all is said and done, because we all know these two are capable of doing just that.
In the end, Rollins drops the classic match to Orton, which is nothing to be ashamed of, given the fact that Orton is one of the more respected and talented performers of the last decade. As the match comes to a close, the camera pans on to a dejected Rollins, foreshadowing that this is not the last we’ve seen of him on the evening of March 29.
Part II: Crash the Roman Reigns-Brock Lesnar Party
We’ve now hit the point in the night where it’s time for the fans to see the match they’ve been dreading–Roman Reigns facing Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Both men make their entrances, get in the ring and their individual announcements are made. The bell even rings and these two monsters start circling the ring, feeling each other out, while most of the crowd is probably crapping all over what they’re about to see.
That’s when this happens…
The crowd inside Levi’s Stadium goes absolutely out of their minds. Seth Rollins comes power-walking down to the ring with his briefcase in hand with the most determined look that you’ve ever seen on someone’s face. For the first time in history, we’re going to see the Money in the Bank briefcase cashed in at WrestleMania.
To drive the point home a little more, Triple H and Stephanie come charging down to the ring and Hunter is pleading with Seth not to do it; not like this. Triple H continues to scream at Seth, demanding that he get his ass back to the locker room. Seth punches out Triple H, further getting the crowd into what he’s doing. Next, he hands the briefcase to the referee and says, “CASH IT IN, NOW!”
Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar stand there in the ring with this, “What the hell is this idiot doing?” look on their face, as the announcers drive the point home that Seth has not only wrestled once already tonight–but he’s lost!
Much like what happened in the triple threat at the Royal Rumble, Rollins puts on the performance of a lifetime, with the crowd eating up everything that he’s doing in that ring.
By the time all is said and done, Seth Rollins has become the babyface that they wanted Roman Reigns to be for this match, and he ends up hitting a curb stomp on his old Shield partner Roman Reigns.
WrestleMania 31 ends with Seth Rollins as your new WWE Champion and the first person ever to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase at the event.
Part III: The Aftermath
The next night on RAW, the show closes with Rollins in the ring cutting his promo for the first time as the new WWE Champion. That raucous RAW-after-WrestleMania crowd is just elated at what they saw last night and are more than happy to serenade Rollins with, “THANK YOU, SETH” chants.
Out comes the Royal Rumble winner himself, Roman Reigns, to congratulate his former partner. Reigns says that while they may have had their differences since the break up, he can respect the hell out of what he did last night and he deserves to be the first Shield member to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
After a hug, and Reigns seemingly walking out of the ring, the former Georgia Tech defensive tackle turns around and launches himself full speed into Seth, delivering a crushing spear. He proceeds to beat the life out of Rollins, destroying him both inside and outside of the ring as the crowd spews ALL of the hatred onto Reigns for ruining this.
Reigns beats him down to close the show and he walks back up the ramp.
When Reigns gets back to the top of the ramp, through the curtain comes the man who, on Monday night, admitted that he had known Reigns since he was a little boy and the entire Samoan wrestling family for as long as he has been in the business–Paul Heyman.
With Lesnar back to the UFC, Heyman has his new powerhouse to lead the way on the heel scene and the WWE Universe has the face champion they’ve always wanted.
And, away we go…
