A couple of weeks ago, the Royal Rumble occurred and nearly broke the internet.
The result, with Roman Reigns winning the match, heading to WWE WrestleMania to face Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Championship, left fans so angry that the hash-tag #cancelwwenetwork trended for days on Twitter as a result.
What made the situation worse was the man the fans wanted to win, Daniel Bryan, found himself eliminated early in the match and robbed of his chance of ‘Mania main event glory for the second year.
Since that unpleasing ending, we’ve seen Bryan and Seth Rollins fight for the chance to face Reigns, and his opportunity at the title at the upcoming Fast Lane pay-per-view.
WWE has presented this as them listening to the fans, but is that the case? To me, I have a sneaky feeling this was the plan all along.
After being out of action for the majority of 2014, Daniel Bryan returned late in the year and announced that he would enter the Rumble. From there, the majority of fans looked forward to him winning and going forward to main event the biggest event of the year once again. However, Vince McMahon had another plan.

For a long time, it’s been rumored that the former Shield man Reigns would get the win that the fans craved for Bryan to get, which is exactly what happened. When that happened, the crowd in Philadelphia booed him out of the building. Even the appearance of WWE legend The Rock couldn’t stop that from happening.
When people expect something to happen, and then it doesn’t, it’s very rare that they take the actual result well. That’s what we saw from that crowd and on social media.
Then came the news from Triple H that he was going to make the Earth-shattering announcement on Raw.
We saw Bryan face MITB briefcase holder Rollins in a match with the winner going on to face Reigns at Fast Lane. Bryan won, despite the odds being against him.
Instantly it put the fans a step closer to seeing the leader of the Yes Movement in the match they want, and it looks like the office is listening to the fans.
But take a step back and look at it. To me, it seems like a perfect plan coming to fruition.
With fans booing Reigns, it’s the perfect time to turn him heel. A cocky, brash Reigns playing a similar role to The Rock’s “Rocky Maivia” persona from his early career would be the perfect foil to the super over Bryan. I think Reigns needs to be in that spot because the fans are never going to get behind him in that situation.
While this is happening, Brock Lesnar awaits the winner on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
If it’s Lesnar vs Reigns, Vince wins. If it’s Lesnar vs Bryan, the fans win.
I still think regardless of who wins at Fast Lane, we could still see all three men in that main event at WWE WrestleMania. Don’t forget there’s still a guy with a briefcase lurking in the background as well.
Fatal 4-Way anybody?
