Will We Ever See a Balor Club in the WWE?
By Raza Kazi
The WWE have already trademarked Balor Club, but will the day ever come where Finn Balor leads a group once more?
Last year wrestling fans worldwide were buzzing when the WWE were snapping up the biggest names on the independent circuit to its NXT division.
The likes of Adrian Neville and Sami Zayn were quickly being joined by Kevin Steen as well as international superstars in KENTA and Prince Devitt. NXT continued to grow in popularity and made it a must-watch show every single week.
Each of their arrivals brought a different kind of excitement, the prospect of watching Steen take on Zayn was mouthwatering, KENTA was a massive name over in Asia and the WWE could exploit the Asian market once more. But for Devitt it was the success of the integral role he played in the successful Bullet Club.
As one of the four founding members of Bullet Club, Devitt’s stock grew and the fact that the WWE came knocking didn’t come as a surprise. Devitt enjoyed a successful stint as the leader and it will always go down as one his career highlights.

Every NXT fan wonders how their favourite superstar will make their debut on the main roster. We saw Sami Zayn answer John Cena’s open challenge for the United States Championship in a valiant effort, whilst on Monday Night Raw this week, NXT Champion Kevin Owens hit a huge powerbomb on John Cena to set up a match at Elimination Chamber, and Finn Balor fans will be hoping that he too can make his way to the main roster in explosive fashion.
Of course, there are plenty of ways in which the WWE can have Finn Balor debut on the main roster. They can air vignettes for weeks before he arrives when the fans know he will be there, he could answer a certain challenge or there is the slight possibility that Balor could make his main roster debut as part of a group.
Last year it was revealed by Cage Side Seats that the WWE had trademarked ‘Balor Club’ which raised speculation that the WWE could have Balor form his own faction, like he did with Bullet Club. In a more recent interview with MTV in the UK; he was asked about the WWE trademarking Balor Club to which he responded “never say never”.
This opens up a whole new possibility for Finn Balor and raises the question, could we eventually see a Balor Club in the WWE? And if so, who could he align himself with?
Die-hard fans of Bullet Club will probably ridicule the WWE for this, as they’re practically ripping off the Bullet Club idea but to be fair it is something Balor himself helped build and if they entertained thousands of fans before, he now has the opportunity to entertain millions and he should be allowed the freedom to do that.
I highly doubt the WWE would care about the potential backlash – if any – surrounding the formation of a Balor Club. They will have a great idea of how successful Bullet Club was, and still is and they’d want to capitalise on that with plenty of merchandise for example.
With this there would be a slight risk of recycling the Nexus angle and having the potential Balor Club run riot on the main roster like Wade Barrett and co. did. But if it means fans are able to see more of Finn Balor in a gimmick where he is comfortable and entertaining then so be it.
He also has the potential to help others around him, superstars who might not be the best talkers on the microphone but could be huge assets to Balor Club should it ever form.

If we do eventually see Balor Club in the WWE, we shouldn’t expect to see a plethora of NXT superstars thrown together. That would be a mistake and it would go down a similar route to what Nexus did. If it happens, the WWE would need to handpick or allow Balor to handpick superstars he could work with, stars would be valuable additions to Balor Club whether it be guys from NXT, or even from the main roster.
I don’t think that the WWE will do a lot of searching to find suitable members. I believe there are ready made stars on the entire roster who could play certain roles perfectly.
For example, Hideo Itami is someone who probably won’t take over the main roster as a singles superstar, with his limited English it remains doubtful that as a singles star Itami will ever be the top star in the WWE regardless of his immense talent.
But if you align him with Finn Balor, work alongside someone who can speak confidently on the microphone then you have a huge addition to the group, having one of the greatest wrestlers on the planet in your stable so you’re ready to take on anyone in the WWE.
You would definitely need the ‘muscle’ of the group. Imposing figures such as Karl Anderson and Tama Tonga were key figures in Bullet Club whilst the WWE has stars such as The Big Show who adds valuable experience or even Big E, Sheamus and NXT’s Baron Corbin. Each brings something different to the table but are still imposing and would do anything to protect the leader.
They could even exploit the tag team division, ensure their presence is felt everywhere and two names that already stick out who can actually wrestle and offer a lot are Tyson Kidd and Cesaro; a team the fans are behind and it would be great for their careers also to hop on to something fans would love to see.
It won’t necessarily need to stop there. Branching out into the divas division could be a huge step forward in giving one diva a chance, from Natalya to Charlotte to Becky Lynch to Paige, they all have brilliant traits which means they would be well suited to a Balor Club in the WWE and that diva would be set apart from the rest which is what we need right now.
It’s unclear just how close we are to Balor Club this forming. The name has been trademarked and Finn Balor himself has spoken out about this topic numerous times so it doesn’t seem like an idea that is dead and buried. At the same time, it doesn’t necessarily mean Finn Balor will debut on the main roster as part of Balor Club, the WWE will definitely want to continue capitalising on the fact that he competes under two characters. The second being the demon we see at TakeOver specials and that will definitely be shown on the main roster numerous times.

Balor is a superstar with a bright future on the main roster. He will be taking on Tyler Breeze at NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable in the hope of becoming number one contender to the NXT Championship. It’s now simply a waiting game to see how long Balor remains on NXT, and how long it takes – if ever – to see Balor Club becoming a worldwide phenomenon.
