Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens Can Be the Next Two-Man Power Trip

The Two-Man Power Trip of Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H dominated WWE in 2001. Could Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins be the next version of that?

We now know that Kevin Owens is here to stay on the WWE main roster. This comes just five months after he debuted at NXT TakeOver: R Evolution.

We have seen Owens have some interaction with The Authority and it’s likely he could officially join the stable soon. If so, the pairing of the NXT Champion and the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins could make quite the dominant duo.

The last time we saw a dominant duo in a heel authority figure stable was the Two-Man Power Trip of Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H in 2001. Austin aligned with Mr. McMahon at WrestleMania X-7 and The Game joined them the following night on Raw is War.

With Austin’s WWF Championship and Triple H’s WWF Intercontinental Championship, the two would secure the last piece of gold in the WWF Tag Team Championship shortly after.

Unfortunately, the duo didn’t last long. Triple H would suffer a career-threatening torn quadriceps and the two would lose the Tag Team Championship. Austin would disband the group days after the injury.

14 years later, could we see the return of the Two-Man Power Trip with Owens and Rollins? It’s certainly possible.

Rollins already owns the WWE WHC after cashing in Money in the Bank at WrestleMania 31. His reign seems like it will continue until at least SummerSlam and possibly further on as long as he’s aligned with The Authority. Also putting him with Owens instead of J&J Security could give him even more legitimacy.

Owens has everything to gain from this. His pairing with Rollins would give him immediate credibility (if he didn’t have it already). Plus his presence with The Authority would give the group the boost it so badly needs if it’s going to stay afloat.

The question would be if Owens and Rollins can add the WWE Tag Team Championship and a mid-card title.

Owens is in the middle of a feud with John Cena. The two will face off this Sunday at Elimination Chamber in a non-title match. If this becomes a series with the US Championship eventually on the line, could Owens win the title from Mr. HLR? Doing so would accomplish fifty-percent of the task at hand.

The other half is the WWE Tag Team Championship. The New Day is rolling right now with the belts but give the way the tag titles handled, they could drop them at any point. Ideally Owens and Rollins would win them from a face team. If New Day loses the belts to The Lucha Dragons, The Primtime Players or Cesaro and Tyson Kidd on Sunday, this could set up a match vs. the new Two-Man Power Trip down the line.

Once Owens and Rollins would control the majority of the belts they would reign supreme over WWE until the inevitable split. A rivalry between these two could be all-time great but that’s something to look at down the line.

A potential second edition of The Two-Man Power Trip could be great if handled correctly. It will be something to watch moving forward.
