NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn Results: Sasha Banks vs. Bayley

facebooktwitterreddit

Who left NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn with the NXT Women’s Championship? Sasha Banks and Bayley were definitely not ratchet at Barclays Center!

The NXT Women’s Championship was part of the double main event for NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn so why not some double coverage? Assisting me [EW] on coverage will be the newly misogynistic Greg “The Hammer” Valentine. [GV]

What went down:

  •  [EW] Each woman received a huge reception. Sasha arrives like a boss. Take that, Beyoncé.
  • [GV] Neither of these women are home washing dishes. Not impressed.
  • [EW] Sasha mocked Bayley’s Dusty attire.
  • [GV] I’m mocking these women for not being pregnant and home having babies.
  • [EW] The women trade near-fall roll-ups while the crowd debates whether or not Sasha is ratchet.
  • [GV] What is a ratchet? You mean a wrench set?
  • [EW] Sasha went after Bayley’s recently injured knee causing Bayley to lay out on the outside.
  • [GV] You want to injure a knee? My figure-four does the trick.
  • [EW] Sasha puts Bayley in a submission hold that makes Bayley look like she is hugging herself.
  • [EW] Sasha sprawling Bayley across the top rope and dropped her knees to her midsection. Sasha follows up with verbal abuse that she is better than her opponent.
  • [GV] I’m better than all women!
  • {{At this point, I hit Greg Valentine with a frying pan and dropped him off at an Oprah’s Book Club Meeting. Back to the match…}}
  • Deserved “This is wrestling!” chant from the crowd right before Sasha smashed Bayley’s hand between the pole and ring steps.
  • HUGE flip by Banks over the top rope with the use of the referee’s back. Cue a “this is awesome” chant! The crowd now roots on Bayley.
  • Despite an injured hand, Bayley unleashes a series of double axe-handles followed by a corner suplex.
  • Sasha blocks Bayley to Belly, many reverses and Banks locks in the Bank statement. Crowd is extremely vocal as Bayley crawls to the rope, but Banks smashes Bayley’s hand.
  • Bayley reverses Bank Statement into her own, but Banks eventually finds the rope. “NXT” chants!
  • Sasha kicks out of Bayley to Belly.
  • Sasha fights off a potential Bayley hurricanrana from the top rope.
  • Fans are chanting loudly for both women as we near the 15th round.
  • Bayley likes elbowing Sasha in the back of the head followed by a top rope hurricanrana and Bayley to Belly!
  • New champion! Hugs win! Hugs win!
  • Charlotte and Becky run in to congratulate Bayley! Even Sasha’s dark heart melts and joins in.

What I saw:

Props to Bayley for the polka-dotted, Dusty Rhodes-themed attire. Banks’ entourage was also impressive, because it didn’t escalate into a pro athlete getting hurt or an altercation with drunk fans or crooked police officers. Both women put on an amazing performance with nothing being held back. Attacking Bayley’s hand with the ring steps was a brilliant heel move by Sasha Banks. Bayley is almost a female Sami Zayn in that she is an underdog and has failed many times before finally succeeding. However, Bayley is a character who fights for young girls everywhere and expect her to be the future poster girl of WWE’s “Be A Star” campaign. The Four Horsewomen do it again!
