Destruction in Kobe: Hiroshi Tanahashi’s Wrestle Kingdom 10 Contract for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship
Bad Luck Fale vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi
When Tanahashi won the G1 Climax he earned the contract for the main event of Wrestle Kingdom. However, until Wrestle Kingdom Tanahashi must defend his contract at every major NJPW event until Wrestle Kingdom. Usually the winner of the G1 Climax must defend the contract against the opponents he lost to in the tournament. This year is no different, as Tanahashi will face both men who defeated him Fale is up first. Fale had a pretty impressive showing in the G1 climax, earning 10 points and finishing tied for third alongside Tetsuya Naito. Fale shocked everyone when he defeated Tanahashi in the tournament. By doing this Fale has earned his chance to main event Wrestle Kingdom 10 by defeating Tanahashi again. This is a huge match with a lot on the line will the face of NJPW continue on the road to Wrestle Kingdom 10, or will the Underboss of the Bullet Club take the contract?
Destruction in Kobe: IWGP Intercontinental Championship Match
Hirooki Goto vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Goto and Nakamura have had quite the rivalry over the Intercontinental Championship over the last year. This will be the duo’s fourth match this year and the third with the Intercontinental Championship on the line. Their feud began at Wrestling Dontaku when Goto defeated Nakamura to win the Intercontinental Championship. The duo then met at Old Dominion 7.5, in a match of the year candidate with Goto once again defeating Nakamura. Nakamura, finally was able to defeat Goto this year back in August during their match in the G1 Climax tournament. Now with the Intercontinental Championship on the line, will the King of Strong Style, Nakamura, be able to win back the title he has helped build in NJPW, or will Hirooki Goto defeat him one again?
King of Pro Wrestling: IWGP Heavyweight Championship Match:
Kazuchika Okada vs. AJ Styles
Okada and Styles have been at the forefront of the IWGP Heavyweight title picture for the last year. This will be the duo’s third match with the title on the line and their rubber match as each man has one once. Their last match came at Old Dominion 7.5 with Okada defeating Styles to capture the Heavyweight Championship. The two both had strong performances in the G1 Climax with both men losing in their Block Finals to Nakamura and Tanahashi. The two recently met in a 6-man tag match with Styles landing the pinfall victory on Okada. This classic rivalry will meet its climax in early October when these two meet one last time to see who is truly the better man. Will “The Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada continue on the path to the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 10, or will the Phenomenal One, AJ Styles recapture the IWGP Heavyweight Championship for the third time.
