Is it Time for Big Show to Retire from WWE?
By Carl Gac
For the last few weeks it’s been rumored that the Big Show was set to retire soon. Who in the world of wrestling can do that?

When your fans start chanting “Please Retire” at you, is it time to start listening? It’s been happening for the last few years but it seems that recently, in the storyline at least, it’s starting to get under Big Show’s skin.
In the last few months, Big Show has been stuck in a feud with WWE Intercontinental Champion, Ryback. The Miz has been thrown in for good measure. Numerous matches have taken place between the three men, but Ryback has held onto his title.

During last night’s Raw, the Show was in the middle of his latest Intercontinental Title match with the Big Guy, when something interesting happened.
With the “Please Retire” chants raining down on him, he stopped mid-match, and asked for a microphone. He addressed the crowd “Do you want me to retire?” with the answer bring loud cheers. “Find somebody to come and retire me then, because there ain’t nobody here who can do it.” He was met with massive boos from the crowd.
But why are the crowd on his back so much about him retiring?
Show has been around for 20 years. He started out in WCW as The Giant. In his official debut match, he beat Hulk Hogan for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, albeit by DQ in a match where the title could change hands on a DQ. He would later get stripped of the belt and robbed in a match to win it back. He eventually won the belt properly by beating Ric Flair, only to lose it to Hollywood Hogan a few months later.

As a big man, he was always going to be pushed to the top of the card. He debuted in WWF in 1999 and has been near the top ever since, winning titles. A multi-time Heavyweight Champion, as well as winning the Intercontinental Title, U.S. Title, Tag Team Titles, among others. If he wasn’t so big, would his actual wrestling talent have seen him gain as many accolades as he has? Not a chance.
You should be encouraged by the fact that he’s spent the last few years putting over younger talent. He helped guys get wins that have lifted them higher up the card while doing his best to look like the monster he really should be.
Part of me can understand why the fans want to see him gone; the multiple face and heel turns, the fact he’s only in his spot because of his size and the way he’s always in a top spot regardless of his in-ring talent.
You could say that’s a good reason to want to see him retire. But, as he said, who is there in the world that is bigger than him or who would be a realistic person to book as the one to retire him?
