Who would have thought that 2/3 of The Shield, the most dominant faction in WWE history, would be getting manhandled by a reformed Wyatt Family, but that’s exactly what is happening. Not that it should be a surprise since the Wyatts largely dominated the Shield when they feuded last year, but now with the addition of the “Black Sheep” Braun Strowman, they are practically unstoppable. Roman Reigns and his pal Dean Ambrose have been outgunned facing the combined might of Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, and Strowman, and they’re finally going to start looking for some help this coming Monday Night Raw, ahead of a six-man tag match set for Night of Champions.

But who would Reigns and Ambrose turn to for help? They pretty much only have one another to lean on as allies since they’ve beaten up most of the WWE roster. The most obvious choice from a storyline standpoint would be Erick Rowan, the previous sheep mask-wearing, epic-bearded brute of the Wyatts. However, he’s out with an injury that should keep him out a while longer, so let’s assume he won’t be back in time. While some names have already been floated as possibilities, a lot has changed over the last few days and some new contenders have emerged.

1. Kane: The one thing Reigns and Ambrose are going to need more than anything else is strength. That may seem weird when you’ve got Reigns on the team but clearly he’s no match for Strowman. The Big Red Machine is expected to return next week and he would be an answer to this problem for them. However, he seems like an odd fit to help them since they’ve never gotten along, whether the Shield were babyfaces or heels. Plus, he has no particular beef with the Wyatts and should rightly be focused on Seth Rollins. However, Kane will need something to do upon returning, and what better way to re-establish what a monster he can be than by having him go toe-to-toe with Strowman? And let’s not forget, the Wyatts made their debut in 2013 by attacking who? Kane.

2. Samoa Joe: Who says their partner has to come from the main roster? Samoa Joe may be down at NXT right now but he’s the kind of big name that would get the crowd excited and sell a bunch more PPVs. Joe has the size and strength to help out against the Wyatts, and let’s not discount that he and Reigns are of Samoan descent. Let’s hope they don’t try to say Joe is part of the famous Anoa’i family, but would anyone be surprised if they did?

3. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin: No, you haven’t downed one too many cold ones, the “Texas Rattlesnake” has to be in the back of your mind as a potential partner for Reigns and Ambrose. Not only is the PPV happening in Houston, TX, but can you imagine the promos of the three of them in a bar surrounded by a pile of empty beer cans? It would be tremendous, and since this is a six-man match he would be protected in the ring. Stomp a few mudholes, raise a finger, tag out. Austin has been pretty clear about not wanting to wrestle again, saying back in June that he had already wrestled his last match, retirement is rarely final in this business.

4. Cesaro: Who better to face the might of Braun Strowman than the one they call the “Swiss Superman”? Cesaro has been red-hot of late, at least with the fans, with the Cesaro Section growing every single week.  He’s clearly being pushed to the moon and rubbing shoulders with Ambrose and Reigns would only help solidify him as a legit A-list superstar. Plus, following his feud with Kevin Owens, where he came out on the losing end, Cesaro needs to transition into something just as high-profile. Choosing to join this match would make him an obvious target of Bray Wyatt, which would give Cesaro more time on the microphone opposite someone who can work the crowd as well as he does.

5. Chris Jericho: This one’s coming a bit out of left field, but does the WWE have a better pinch hitter than Y2J?  Jericho’s popularity hasn’t wavered one bit despite his part-time schedule, and when he does return, like he did at July’s Beast from the East special in Tokyo, he’s energized like never before. Adding Jericho into the mix will give the match a dose of much-needed speed and technicality, but also star power that the PPV sorely needs. And let’s not forget Jericho’s failing efforts against Wyatt last year, not long before he went away on hiatus. He could come back with revenge on his mind, and probably with a lot to say.
