Is it time to wave “Adios” to Los Matadores? The bullfighting duo of Diego and Fernando, along with their bull sidekick Torito, have had a tough go of it in the championship picture, and now it looks like all of the losses have begun to take a toll. After suffering a quick loss to the Dudley Boyz at tonight’s Raw, Torito became the target of Los Matadores who proceeded to kick and beat on him after the match. While Torito was saved from further harm by the Dudleyz, could this be the last we see of them as a team?

Recently a rumor surfaced in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via Wrestling Rumors) may be repackaging Los Matadores soon. The duo started teaming together as Primo and Epico back in 2011 and found early success, winning the WWE World Tag Team Championships over Air Boom. Their heat quickly faded and the duo were reintroduced in 2013 as Los Matadores, a Spanish bullfighter gimmick heavily promoted in a series of vignettes. Their names became ironic as the titles would elude them easier than a matador avoids a charging bull. They would rack up some cheap wins over a couple of years but were never a serious contender for the gold. The closest they came was at SummerSlam competing in a Fatal Four-Way match with the Prime Time Players, New Day, and Lucha Dragons.
It’s possible Los Matadores continue on as a team without Torito by their side, which could be a good thing. Nearly all of their feuds centered around Torito’s misadventures, including a months-long rivalry with Hornswoggle that may have made the kids happy but hurt what little momentum Los Matadores had. The best move may be to drop the matador gimmick and have them simply be Primo and Epico once more. A stint down in NXT could be just what they need to find an attitude that’s ready for the big leagues. With WWE desperate to build up their roster of Latin American superstars they should get at least one more chance to succeed.
Unfortunately, the next few weeks will probably find Torito getting his revenge on Los Matadores, driving the final sword into the team and finishing them for good.
