26) The Undertaker and Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Mankind and Kane – WWF Raw is War, June 15, 1998

This match came about when Kane and Mankind made a surprise attack on Austin during an episode of Raw is War. They shoved Stone Cold into a casket while Undertaker’s music played. The official announcement for this came during the June 15, 1998 episode, though, as Paul Bearer issued the challenge to Undertaker and Austin for this match, which the latter initially accepted. However, after playing Undertaker’s entrance twice, he did not come out. This led to Austin trying to take on both Mankind and Kane at once.

Paul Bearer then locked himself inside the cell to be safe from the carnage. This did not end well, though, as Undertaker popped through the ring and beat down his former advocate. This became a memorable moment in Hell in a Cell’s storied history.

While being only one of two Hell in a Cell matches ever on Raw, this can’t really even be considered a match. It only featured Austin brawling with Kane and Mankind and Undertaker crushing Bearer. It ended in a no contest after 10 minutes of action on TV but the babyfaces won when the show went off the air.

This Hell in a Cell match was a prelude to what happened at King of the Ring 1998. More on that later.
