Final Thoughts
SmackDown was another lackluster effort from the WWE this week.
Even though it has built an offhand reputation as the WWE’s “B-show,” SmackDown regularly features some of the better matches between itself and Raw. SmackDown is where mid-carders get their time in front of the camera, and often they make the most of it.
This week’s episode proved contrary, though, as we were presented with many abrupt, one-sided matches that really didn’t serve much of a purpose at all—both from a story perspective and an entertainment perspective. The main event did Dean Ambrose justice, allowing him to revel in front of his hometown crowd, but that was really this week’s only redeeming factor.
The build for Hell in a Cell started off hot after Night of Champions, but as next Sunday draws closer, the WWE finds itself sputtering toward the finish line. With only two shows left before the big night, hopefully the WWE finds its second wind in time to make for memorable event.
As a wrestling fan, above all else, I just want a show that delivers consistent, wrestling goodness from start to finish. Unfortunately, this week’s SmackDown was not that show.
