WWE TLC 2011

TLC 2011 was all about 2 men. CM Punk defended his WWE Championship in a triple threat main event against Alberto Del Rio and The Miz, while Daniel Bryan cashed in Money in the Bank to get his hands on the World Heavyweight Championship. Building the upper card around CM Punk and Bryan was a great way to get the fans back watching the product, both men were massively over and loved by the fans.

A fairytale ending saw Zack Ryder win his first WWE United States Championship against Dolph Ziggler in the opening match. The WWE Tag Team Championship match between champions Air Boom (Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne) against Primo & Epico was solid if not spectacular, with the champions easily retaining the gold. Randy Orton and Wade Barrett produced a solid tables match, won by Orton with an RKO through the table. The Divas Champion Beth Phoenix beat Kelly Kelly to retain in a forgettable outing that showed the lack of opponents for the dominant champion.

Triple H faced old friend Kevin Nash in a Sledgehammer Ladder match, where a sledgehammer was hanging above the ring. A match that was awkward at times ended with a win for Triple H after a Pedigree and sledgehammer shot to the face. Triple H proving here he could draw a good match from almost anyone, this was a particularly brutal looking encounter with hammer shots aplenty.

Sheamus and Jack Swagger engaged in a solid brawl before World Champion Mark Henry defended against Big Show in a Chairs match. At one point, it looked like every chair in the area was in the ring, eventually Show won the belt but would be put through chairs with a DDT by Henry after the match which lead to Bryan cashing in and becoming champion. Big Show looked shell-shocked as he realised he’d been beaten, it was for the best though big man. The Intercontinental title match saw Cody Rhodes retain his belt against the legend that is Booker T in a passable match, which lead us to our main event.

CM Punk took on Alberto Del Rio and The Miz in a TLC match. Punk again proved why he’d been pushed as the top guy in the company, crafting a great match with his two opponents. At one point it looked as if he’d lose his belt, after being handcuffed to a ladder by Del Rio’s ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez, he managed to break free and use them as a weapon, though. One of the highlights of the match had to be Rodriguez climbing the ladder to seemingly grab the belt for his boss, only to be tipped off by Miz and Punk through a table at ringside. Miz handcuffed Punk to the turnbuckle, only to get a massive kick from Punk who then attempted to break the cuffs off. He finally managed to unscrew the turnbuckle and get back int to the action, climbing ladders alongside his opponents. Knocking Del Rio down and hitting the GTS on the Miz to finally get the win by grabbing the belt. This was a great main event, showing how good CM Punk was as champion, also with some inventive action along the way.
