Should John Cena Return as a Heel with Roman Reigns as WWE Champion?

With Roman Reigns holding the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, is now the ideal time for John Cena to turn heel?

For over a decade, John Cena has been the face of the WWE. He has won a world title sixteen times and headlined a few dozen pay-per-views, including multiple WrestleMania events. However, he is 38-years-old and his best years are behind him. Factor in his growing movie career and Mr. HLR will need to be replaced.

On the recent episode of Monday Night Raw, Roman Reigns won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. He did this with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon at ringside, who did whatever he could to make sure the man who destroyed his son-in-law at WWE TLC didn’t walk out with the belt. He also wanted to be there to fire Reigns if he did not win the belt.

More from John Cena

It’s clear the former Shield man is being built to become the next face of WWE. He has been pushed into the main event scene over the past year, most notably headlining WrestleMania 32. Now with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in hand, it’s clear his status is as the new man.

With WrestleMania 32 on the horizon, it’s clear Reigns will probably walk into the show as the champion. His list of challengers is short, though. Cena will obviously be on the card and be in a top match.

The leader of the Cenation also was not around when the title change took place. He has been filming a reality show for the past few months as he furthers his career outside WWE. While his presence on Raw and PPV’s has been missed, it seems a new guard is taking over. Could it lead to a match between the new and old faces of WWE?

How about the old face finally turning heel on the new guy to try to keep his spot as the face of WWE?

For years, fans have clamored for Cena to turn heel. This is due to his character making little to no changes as the guy who overcomes the odds. People have also felt that Cena is McMahon’s guy and with the boss not happy with Reigns’ on TV, what-if the face of the WWE and the Chairman team up? With Triple H and Stephanie McMahon also angry with Roman, it would make Cena as The Authority’s guy.

We would finally be able to see how Cena would look like as a heel. It would be bizarre and territory that hasn’t been stepped into since he was the Doctor of Thuganomics.

This would also be a unique and compelling storyline that fans have never seen before. It would also be not only WrestleMania worthy, but WrestleMania main event worthy. Put Reigns vs. Cena and The Authority for the title as the headline of the AT&T Stadium show and it would sell out. They are two polarizing figures (Reigns is moving into that position) and would draw in the 100,00 people WWE wants to bring in.

John Cena vs. Roman Reigns with the former as a heel could be a dynamite WrestleMania 32 main event. With the company needing people to fill roles in the top slots of the biggest show of the year, why not create something that fans have never seen before involving the future face vs. the old guard?
