9. Money in the Bank
Date: Jun. 14, 2015
Venue: Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio
Continuing with the 2015 theme of WWE pay-per-views where everyone figured Roman Reigns would be the night’s big winner, the world had Reigns pegged to win the Money in the Bank ladder match. Similar to Survivor Series, haters prayed that anything besides the obvious would happen, and similar to Survivor Series, Sheamus came out on top in the end.
Reigns was within reach of the MITB briefcase, but Bray Wyatt appeared out of nowhere to throw him off the ladder. Sheamus capitalized on the moment and brought down the briefcase instead. The victory was a letdown to many; however, on the bright side, the match ignited a feud between Wyatt and Reigns, which would flourish into one of the better feuds of the year.
The main event of Money in the Bank was a ladder match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Seth Rollins once again defended his title against Dean Ambrose after a screwy finish at Elimination Chamber a few weeks earlier.
In the rematch, both men endured some brutal ladder spots, which lead up to yet another controversial finish: Rollins and Ambrose pulled down the belt at nearly the same time, but Rollins managed to hold on through their skirmish to come away with the win. Nevertheless, the match solidified Dean Ambrose as a main event player.
