Why John Cena Shouldn’t Win the 2016 Royal Rumble
By Carl Gac
We look at why John Cena shouldn’t return to win the Royal Rumble.
With the recent dramatic decline in the ratings for the WWE’s flagship TV show, Raw, there’s been one man who has been absent from proceedings. John Cena dropped the WWE United States Championship to the returning Alberto Del Rio at Heel in a Cell in October and has been away from the WWE ever since.
Cena has been away filming a new reality TV show, “American Grit”, which is set to hit the TV screens in 2016. The man who is one WWE Championship away from equalling Ric Flair’s record 16 World Heavyweight Title reigns made his return to face Del Rio for that same belt, at the final Raw of 2015 from Brooklyn.

When Cena came back he is instantly back as one of the top guys in the company. The man who brought a massive amount back to the much-maligned United States title needs to get his hands on that belt again. When Cena won the title he set about changing the way the belt came across. He started the United States title Open Challenge, a move which brought about some of the best matches of Cena’s career. The fact that some of those matches were against mostly brand new opponents for Cena made all the difference to his time holding the belt.

Cena’s matches against the likes of Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens and Neville were a highlight of 2015. Men like Cesaro and Rusev brought something different to the table to face the man who is the number one guy in WWE. Cena lost his title to Del Rio and since then the new man with the title hasn’t really done much with it. When Cena comes back he needs to butt heads with Del Rio and get his belt back.
There’s no place for John Cena in the main event picture right now. With Roman Reigns as Champion, Sheamus still lurking and the Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar waiting in the wings there’s no need to have super Cena thrust back into the World Heavyweight title mix now he’s back.
Cena brought so much to a belt that was somewhat forgotten at times. He helped lift some of the best up and coming guys onto the main roster, from their home in NXT. Cena used his years of experience and ability in the ring to help elevate younger guys to his level, even if only for a few minutes during their matches.
Now that Cena has made his comeback he will find himself tied up with Del Rio and the League of Nations for a while to come. The Brooklyn crowd were very hostile to him as he made his entrance, but when he began to wind up Del Rio the crowd were lapping up his every word. The fact that Cena looked like he was about to regain the U.S title when both Sheamus and Rusev got involved for the DQ, tells you that he will be busy fighting the dastardly foreigners for a while yet.

That is the perfect place to have Cena now he is back in the ring. Cena will get his chance to win that World Heavyweight title once again but he doesn’t need to do that anytime soon. Without a doubt, he will go on to beat the record number of titles held by Flair before he retires but there’s plenty of time for that to happen.
John Cena is a man who WWE desperately needed to return. John Cena can help to boost the television ratings, but to do that he doesn’t need to win the Royal Rumble or be the World Heavyweight Champion again. Cena can help to build up the stars of the future and give them an automatic boost with a shot at the United States Championship Open Challenge once again.
