Roman Reigns is Under the Most Pressure with John Cena’s injury
With John Cena on the shelf for 6-9 months due to a torn rotator cuff, Roman Reigns has now been given the keys to the WWE Universe.
What a difference one year makes. Last year, around this time, WWE was pushing Roman Reigns down our throats. WWE’s push of Reigns was so desperate that they went as far as to include Reigns’ cousin, The Rock. WWE had The Rock run interference for Reigns at last year’s Royal Rumble. With The Rock’s help, Reigns was able to win the Royal Rumble match. It was an outcome that was heavily criticized and poorly received by the WWE Universe.
This year, the story is different. Not only is Reigns an accepted WWE World Heavyweight champion but he is as over with the WWE Universe as he has ever been during his run as a single’s competitor. The timing is perfect because now WWE needs Reigns to be their savior.

On Wednesday night, John Cena announced that he will be undergoing surgery on Thursday to repair a torn rotator cuff. The injury is expected to keep Cena sidelined for 6-9 months. Meaning, Cena likely will not be competing at WrestleMania 32. That is an unfortunate set of circumstances considering WWE was depending on Cena to take part in one of the main events at the show of shows. With the company already being without injured superstars Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Cesaro, and Daniel Bryan; Cena was likely going to headline WrestleMania 32–either against Reigns or The Undertaker.

With Cena now out with an injury, the pressure is now solely on Reigns. Reigns is currently the biggest active superstar that WWE has on their main roster–not including Brock Lesnar because of his part-time status. WWE was grooming Reigns to be the eventual replacement of Cena as the company’t top man, and now, that time has come.
Will Reigns be able to carry the top spot?
There is no question that Reigns has improved immensely since the debacle at last year’s Royal Rumble. Reigns’ current feud with Stephanie and Vince McMahon and Triple H has gotten him over with the WWE Universe. The only thing that is holding him back remains his microphone skills. Though, his lack of microphone skills won’t force Reigns to succumb to the pressure.
Reign is going to thrive under the pressure that was created in light of Cena’s injury. But, he is going to need help. The McMahons and Triple H need to continue being the strong heels that they are as that will only help Reigns’ ascension to the top spot. But, that feud can only go so far. Come WrestleMania 32, Reigns is going to need a program against a part-time superstar. Lesnar or The Rock would be the likeliest candidates. Both Lesnar and The Rock are capable of continuing Reigns’ progression. The Rock, who passed the torch to Cena at WrestleMania 29, would be an intriguing option.
