WWE Raw: Zack Ryder Should Leave as Intercontinental Champion

With Raw bound to have many surprises, one surprise that should not happen is Zack Ryder losing his recently won Intercontinental Championship.

At WrestleMania, Zack Ryder created one of the most shocking and unpredictable moments in the event’s history when he won the Intercontinental Championship Ladder match. Viewed by many as a long shot with stars such as Sami Zayn, Dolph Ziggler, and former champion Kevin Owens, Ryder shocked the world when he pushed The Miz off the top of the ladder and secured the Intercontinental title.

A couple days before WrestleMania, we noted how WrestleMania could resurrect Ryder’s career. The thinking at the time was that if Ryder could put on a good showing and land a couple memorable spots, he could turn his career around and begin a push of being a consistent mid-carder.

Him winning the match, though, now can certainly have him on the fast road to career resurrection. However, in the past, WWE has turned these feel good moments into an afterthought very quickly. In the case of the Broski, this should not be the case.

Ryder is also speculated to be losing the IC title on Raw. The two superstars that fans are believing could leave the show with the belt are Chris Jericho and Baron Corbin. Jericho, who beat AJ Styles at WrestleMania, lost to Ryder on last Monday’s Raw. Fans are starting to believe that to continue the feud with Styles, Jericho will defeat Ryder tonight for the Intercontinental Championship, thus becoming a 10-time IC title holder, then facing Styles with the belt on the line, and losing it at Payback.

After winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, Corbin WWE might look to continue to push Corbin by having won the Intercontinental Championship on Raw. The Lone Wolf can then go on a dominant run as champion, being the unbeatable monster.

However, with WWE having issues with developing stars over the last few years, the last thing they should do is damaging a potential star’s run before it gets started. Y2J has accomplished everything imaginable in WWE, so the last thing he needs is another championship run. The feud with Styles has been entertaining and they really do not need a championship involved.

WWE can really do something special with Ryder. He went from being a jobber, to instantly winning the company’s second biggest championship. With WWE lacking star power on both the main event and mid-card, they should use this opportunity to add another superstar to their hand.

Ryder has personality and he has gotten a lot better in the ring over the last few years. He has a strong following and he could really put on some great matches with the mid-card. You could book him as the underdog in all of his contests, and even though the odds are against him, he finds ways to win. That’s the definition of a great babyface, a guy who doesn’t quit even when the odds are against he still finds ways to preserver (Daniel Bryan was an example of this).

I would really hate to see his biggest moment in his career get squashed less than 24 hrs late. Ryder has paid his dues and he deserves to have a legit reign as Intercontinental Champion. Ryder could really help the Intercontinental Championship regain some prestige by going on a strong run as champion.

To help WWE start developing more talent on their thin roster, Zack Ryder must leave Raw tonight as Intercontinental Champion. WWE has shot themselves in the foot many times over the last few years, tonight they should end this horrible trend.
