Baron Corbin Should Be the Next WWE Intercontinental Champion

Now that his feud with Dolph Ziggler is over, Baron Corbin needs to be the next intercontinental champion in order to regain his lost momentum.

After making his main roster debut at WrestleMania 32 and winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, Baron Corbin had just the right momentum to propel his WWE career to the next level.

Despite the strong start, Corbin immediately entered a feud with Dolph Ziggler that began on Raw the night after WrestleMania and lasted over three months. The two faced off on three pay-per-views and each time the reaction from fans seemed to grow worse.

Corbin’s feud with Ziggler came to an end at Money in the Bank, where Corbin beat Ziggler by pinfall. This feud was supposed to help propel Corbin’s career to the top, but it didn’t work and left Corbin with no real direction to go.

With the Superstar Draft approaching on July 19, the WWE has an opportunity to put Corbin’s career back on the right track. With that in mind, Baron Corbin needs to be the next WWE Intercontinental Championship.

With The Miz set to return from filming “The Marine 5: Battleground,” the WWE will likely want someone fresh to challenge him for the title at Battleground. Who could use this opportunity more than Baron Corbin?

The Miz is an experienced heel who has added some prestige back to the Intercontinental Championship after beating Cesaro, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens in a very entertaining fatal-4 way match at Extreme Rules. The Miz also has both the in-ring ability and microphone skills to help build up Corbin as a legitimate superstar.

Part of the issue with Corbin’s feud with Ziggler was that it dragged on for too long and was handled poorly. For example, it was a bad decision to have Corbin win their No Disqualification match at Extreme Rules with the help from a low blow.

Corbin is supposed to be a powerhouse who dominates opponents. Having him beat Ziggler with a low blow on a pay-per-view, made him look weak.

It also wasn’t smart to have Ziggler continue their feud by kicking Corbin in the groin right at the start of their match on Raw after Ziggler said the match would be a “technical wrestling match.” It didn’t make sense because Corbin was supposed to be the heel in their feud.

A storyline involving The Miz and Corbin can be entertaining if it’s handled properly. This feud should allow Corbin to shine in the ring as a strong and intimidating force, while The Miz keeps the feud interesting outside of the ring with his great work as a heel on the mic.

Have Corbin beat The Miz on Raw and then have The Miz beat Corbin at Battleground with interference from Maryse. This will allow the feud to carry on until SummerSlam where Corbin ends the feud and wins the title.

During the time between the two pay-per-views, build Corbin’s legitimacy as a contender by giving him clean wins over opponents like Chris Jericho, Alberto Del Rio and Kalisto.
