Kevin Owens Should Have Been Drafted to WWE SmackDown
By Jay Sichler
With WWE RAW stacked to the core with stars, Kevin Owens should’ve been drafted to Smackdown to help create a new superstar for the company.
The draft on Tuesday determined the fate for all the active superstars on the main roster. Superstars will now either compete on RAW or Smackdown. While fans knew some of the more predictable moves, some of the picks were a bit head scratching from a creative point.
The one that stands out the most is Kevin Owens getting drafted to Monday Night RAW. Many felt that it would’ve been better for Owens to go to Smackdown. With RAW packed with stars, many feel Owens would flourish on Smackdown.

Owens was also drafted towards the middle of the draft which also came as shock to many. He also was pretty mad as he cut a really good shoot promo showing his frustration.
Another reason this move doesn’t make sense is that they’re keeping Owens on the same show as his arch rival Sami Zayn. Battleground is supposed to be the final encounter between these two fierce rivals.

However, with them being on the same brand, they will almost most likely face one another again down the line. It would’ve made more sense for one to be on RAW and the other on Smackdown, that way they really could not cross paths again.
With Smackdown having a smaller roster due to it being only two hours long, Owens could’ve moved up the ranks extremely quickly. The former ROH star has shown that he is a star in the making with both his in-ring work and his microphone skills.
Smackdown would’ve allowed him to work in programs with stars like Randy Orton and AJ Styles which could’ve sparked him into the main event picture. With RAW being so top heavy with stars there is the fear that Owens might get lost in the shuffle.

Within in a few months, Owens could’ve been one of the top guys on Smackdown, with little competition to compete with. On RAW, however, it will probably take him more time to be asserted into the main event picture.
Despite this, Kevin Owens still has all the tools to become one of the top guys on the flagship show, Monday Night RAW. It might take him longer, though as the top of the roster seems occupied by guys like Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins.
The Prize Fighter has shown in his time in WWE that he is not afraid to take on any challenge that is presented to him. While his rise to the top certainly would’ve been easier had he been drafted to Smackdown, he certainly won’t back away with the challenge on RAW.
