WWE SmackDown Live Needs Own Women’s Championship
By Jay Sichler
With the Draft making the WWE Women’s Championship exclusive to RAW, Smackdown Live needs to create their own Women’s Championship for the Girls on Smackdown to compete for.
Tuesday night on Smackdown Live, the draft took place. This saw some many shocking moves and completely shook up the roster, including RAW selecting Charlotte with their second overall pick.
With RAW selecting Charlotte they also gained the exclusive rights to the WWE Women’s Championship. Despite not having the Women’s Championship, Smackdown created a very competitive female division to compete with RAW.

Smackdown has compiled a very strong female roster selecting Becky Lynch and Natalya. They also selected Alexa Bliss and Carmella from the NXT roster, bolstering the female division on the brand.
With a talent core of women on Smackdown, the brand needs to create a Women’s championship for them to compete for. Women like Lynch and Natalya have been strong competitors for some time now and deserve to have a Championship to battle for.

The Irish Lasskicker was the first women taken by Smackdown, with the hope that she could be the top girl of the brand. Her work ethic and personality will certainly be able to help her become the top girl of the blue brand.
Despite this, Becky should still be given her own championship on the Smackdown brand. Without a title, the female division will never be taken seriously on Tuesday nights, and without anything to fight for their matches will soon become boring and unwatchable.
Not having anything for the girls to strive for will cause fans to become uninterested in the Women’s division on Smackdown. Smackdown has a great nucleus of talent with established females like Becky Lynch and Natalya and up and comers like Carmella and Alexa Bliss.

With Lynch and Natalya currently feuding with one another the perfect way to initiate a Women’s Championship for Smackdown would be to set up a match between the two for the vacant title.
With Summerslam right around the corner, Smackdown could have these two battle at the big pay per view for the championship. With Charlotte and Sasha Banks looking like they will clash at Summerslam on the RAW side, Smackdown could counter with Lynch and Natalya. The former needs to win the match and become the first Women’s Champion for Smackdown.
Lynch has paid her dues and has shown that she can carry a female division in WWE. She is still waiting for her first title run in WWE, and it should come as the first Women’s Champion for Smackdown.
Lynch can also help develop newcomers like Carmella and Alexa Bliss while helping to carry the Smackdown Women’s brand. Giving her the first reign on Smackdown is both the smart and right thing to do.
Smackdown is entering a brand new era with it being live and having a brand new roster. To help usher in this new era, the Smackdown brand needs to create a brand new Women’s Championship and give it to Becky Lynch to begin this new era for both Smackdown and the Women’s division.
