Here’s a great way that WWE could make their product a whole lot more entertaining, with a little help from Joey Ryan.

One thing that is always thrown at WWE is that a lot of their product is boring. When you look at the weekly TV shows, there’s a lot of stuff that is repetition or that simply isn’t as good as WWE thinks it will be. As for the wider world of professional wrestling, there’s a whole lot of stuff that is head and shoulders above the WWE. However, one thing stands out as one of the most entertaining things currently out there, the DDT 24/7 Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship and the hard work that Joey Ryan puts into it.

DDT Pro Wrestling is a Japanese promotion, which grew to become one of the top Indy promotions in Japan. It’s is probably mostly well known for its comedy matches, including Kota Ibushi wrestling Yoshihiko the blow-up doll, a silence match where the loser was the first man to make too much noise and a match on a campsite.

But in the last few months, one thing has announced DDT and one of its championships on a global scale. The Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship is a title which is defended 24/7. In its history, their have been over 1100 holders of the belt. During its early days it changed hands a record 62 times in one night, between two guys. The belt has been held by several different animals, a handful of inanimate objects and more recently a whole audience at a wrestling show.

The title has changed hands in some of the most ridiculous ways, including in dreams, during games of rock, paper, scissors, whilst men have been asleep and with Jervis Cottonbelly tickling Eli Drake into submission.

When Joey Ryan won the title during a six person match back in Japan during May 2016. He brought the title to the United States and it has changed hands a ridiculous number of times since then, with everyone from Colt Cabana to Cheerleader Melissa, Scott Hall to Rhyno and Brian Kendrick to Spider-man (yes Spider-Man) having a title reign along the last few months.

One thing that has put the belt, as well as Ryan and friends, into the spotlight is the fact that he has documented every change via social media and made a big deal out of something so ridiculous. It’s not meant to be anything more than a joke amongst the wrestlers, but it’s entertaining.

More from WWE

Much like during the early 2000’s, when WWE had the 24/7 rule in operation for the Hardcore Championship, this is a throwaway title that gets the fans behind it. If something similar to the Heavymetalweight Championship was brought in to WWE, along with the 24/7 rule, it could give numerous lower card members something to fight over. It wouldn’t all have to be during TV, you could very easily have the title change hands during any time of the day.

If WWE used their various social media outlets to document the championship then they would have a great way to engage fans. Using the title to get over the men and women who are not currently in the plans of creative, could be a great way to build some momentum for various roster members. If you had the likes of The Golden Truth, Bo Dallas, Heath Slater etc fight over the title it would give people a reason to care about them. At the same time, you give the fans something entertaining to watch across several platforms, and bring some fun back to WWE.
