WWE SmackDown Live’s Women’s Division is Stronger Than Raw
By Jay Sichler
With a fantastic combination of veterans and rookies from NXT, Smackdown Live is showing that they have a stronger Women’s division than Monday Night RAW.
We may be only three weeks into this brand new era in WWE, but Smackdown has already been clicking in every aspect. From a strong main event card featuring Dean Ambrose, AJ Styles, John Cena and Randy Orton.
To an exciting tag team division featuring American Alpha, The Vaudevillans, The Usos and The Hype Bros, Smackdown has shown strengths in all aspects. One of the most pleasant surprises has been the strength of the women’s division.
When the Draft took place a few weeks back many fans believed that RAW would have a more entertaining women’s Division. This was assumed because of RAW drafting the then Women’s Champion Charlotte and No. 1 contender Sasha Banks.
Charlotte and Banks had arguably the best women’s match on RAW in years on the first night of the brand extension. However, after these two stars, there is a major drop-off in the talent of women on the flagship show.

Dana Brooke has been used as nothing more as Charlotte’s lackey, and Nia Jax has looked dominant but she has only fought jobbers. Besides these four women who does the brand really have in terms of talent. Summer Rae and Alicia Fox also have never been that great in the ring, and Lana is considered more of a manager than an in-ring talent. Paige is a great, too, but she is injured and recently got suspended for a Wellness Policy violation.

There is only so many times you can do Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks before it starts to become stale and lackluster. Smackdown, on the other hand, has been thriving in terms of the competition they have in their women’s division.
Smackdown built a good nucleus of veteran leadership when they drafted both Becky Lynch and Natalya. Both females have shown they can be great teachers in the ring, and can really help craft and develop the division.
Becky Lynch was the first female taken by Smackdown and she seems poised to be the face of the division going forward on Smackdown. Natalya is a great veteran heel who can really help put over talent on Smackdown. Along with these two, the blue brand has rising stars in Alexa Bliss and Carmella. These two showed off their talents when by scoring victories over Becky (Alexa Bliss) and Natalya (Carmella) on recent episodes.
Smackdown took a huge gamble drafting these two from NXT, but so far it’s looking like the risk was worth the reward. Both Carmella and Alexa Bliss can speak on the microphone and can work in the ring. These two can really help elevate Smackdown and the Women’s division going forward.

The two, unfortunately, were always second-tier players in NXT due to the fact that they were down there with the Four Horsewomen (Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Bayley). They now have the opportunity to show off their talents on Smackdown.
Smackdown also has a huge sleeper in a female that while most fans can’t stand always garners a huge reaction, Eva Marie. Whether you love or her or hate her, Eva always gets a reaction from the crowd.
All Red Everything looks like a star and while her in-ring work is still suspect, her entrance and look are worth trying to invest in. While she might not be solid in the ring yet it doesn’t mean that she won’t be down the line.
Eva Marie could go down the same path that WWE Hall of Famer Trish Status embarked on. Fans might not remember this but when Trish first came to the WWE, she was also horrible in the ring. It took her almost two years in the company until she was finally respected for her in-ring work. We could say the same with Eva. How could all of this change with her suspension, though?
Smackdown Live and their Women’s division have something that RAW is already lacking in, depth. With veterans already primed to lead the division, to a young core of up and comers ready to help make the division the best in can be, the future is bright on Smackdown Live.

It may be early but Smackdown is already showing that their Women’s division is already more superior than RAW’s. The only thing missing is a Women’s Championship to compete for on Smackdown. With the talent, they have hopefully a championship for these girls to compete for will be coming sooner rather than later.
