Is WWE Booking Brock Lesnar to Be Too Strong to Be Defeated?
By Dean Siemon
Is Brock Lesnar being built too strong for someone to eventually beat him in the WWE? With how he defeated Randy Orton, it’s hard to imagine that happening.
During one of the most talked about matches of WWE SummerSlam this weekend between Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton, there was some intrigue with two veterans who came into the WWE around the same time. One would have expected the match to be pretty even until the end, right?
While he was being built as a monster, Lesnar wasn’t going to pummel someone like Orton into a technical knockout, right?
Well then, it looks like that’s exactly what happened. When it comes to realistic booking in professional wrestling, I guess it makes sense that a former UFC Heavyweight Champion would have a victory like this. But this is professional wrestling and some of us were probably hoping for a better ending.
Not only that, but this type of win over a 12-time world heavyweight champion in the WWE starts to bring into question whether the WWE is building Brock Lesnar too strongly to ever have him defeated. It all starts with when he first came back to the WWE in 2012 and had a dominant win over John Cena that began the fame of “Suplex City” in 2014.
There have been a few losses sprinkled in, but for the most part, Lesnar has looked unstoppable since defeating the Undertaker to give the Deadman his first loss at WrestleMania in 2014. With the way he has won in the past year, the concern is that he might be booked too strong for anyone to defeat him.

Let’s look at who the WWE could “possibly” have get a big upset win over Lesnar moving forward. And unfortunately, it’s hard to imagine anyone defeating him right now. There might be some good matches with names like Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and maybe Finn Balor – when he gets healthy. Even Samoa Joe would provide a good matchup based on mixed martial arts skills.
But Owens isn’t likely going to be elevated that high up the ladder with a win over Lesnar. Neither is Zayn. Balor is a maybe, considering they had Balor become the WWE Universal Champion within his first month on the WWE roster. Joe could be a realistic option, but he would need a lengthy buildup for it to feel more special.
But Lesnar is nearly 40 years old and while he’s currently in great physical shape, it’s hard to think how much longer he can wrestle. That would put a timer on the WWE being able to develop a suitable person to get the career-defining win over the Beast Incarnate. Joe is just a few years younger, but the WWE would have to move quickly if they were thinking of a Joe vs Lesnar match at some point down the road.

Yes, Brock Lesnar is eventually going to lose a big-time WWE match. It’s going to happen and it should happen. It’s a matter of when, not if. But it has to be the right opponent at the right time, which is a window that is closing rather quickly. Maybe the WWE should have made Lesnar seem more human than how they’ve portrayed him in the last year.
