WWE Backlash 2016: Predicting Possibilities for Tag Team Title Finalists

Will The Usos follow through on their promise at WWE Backlash or will we see a surprise winner in the Tag Team Tournament Finals?

WWE Backlash will take place in just a matter of days, where the stage is set for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship finals.  What is so appealing about this is that the teams involved are in different scenarios.  Meaning, it left some momentous options to pursue in the Tag Team Division.  The tag team favorites American Alpha were originally in the finals until the Usos attacked them in a shocking heel turn Tuesday night.  Their actions would leave the team unable to compete on Sunday.

Because of the attack, one more Tag Team Tournament match will take place on Sunday.  The Usos will take on the Hype Bros to face the team of Heath Slater and Rhyno in the finals at WWE Backlash .  Due to American Alpha being pulled from the Tournament finals, The Hype Bros received a second chance by a stroke of luck.  They were defeated by Slater and Rhyno earlier Tuesday evening.

While WWE ultimately decides who will be the inaugural SmackDown Tag Team Champions, there is potential with either team.  There could be swerves and surprises involved, no doubt.  But ultimately it must make sense as the new phase of SmackDown Live goes full speed ahead post-Backlash.

If the Hype Bros Are Crowned Champions

Chances are, it is almost zero chance of this team winning the Championships at WWE Backlash.  Then again, many fans thought the same thing about Zack Ryder at WrestleMania this year before he won the Intercontinental Championship.  It would be the most unexpected move of the night if WWE were to catch fans off guard should Ryder and partner Mojo Rawley win.  While the swerve would be good because of shock value, it’s not the right call this time around.  Where would the team go from there?

The Hype Bros aren’t in any prominent feuds right now, and the Tag Team Division will be wide open once Backlash is over.  This is where the other two teams come in.  The Usos, Slater, and Rhyno have stories going into Backlash that will require follow-up at and after the event takes place.

Direction for Heath Slater and Rhyno

Slater’s storyline has been a rather entertaining one.  Since July, fans have watched him trying his best to get signed on to a brand since being undrafted.  Teaming up with veteran Rhyno, the unlikely duo found their way into the Tag Team Championship finals as a sleeper team.  Slater being featured in a secondary storyline has been a good thing for him.  It would also be a complete shocker if the team were to win.  The odd duo could rival Team Hell No in terms of polar opposites that seem to make things work for them.  In fact, they have already started.

However, on the flip side if Slater and Rhyno lose, I don’t think this would be the end of Slater’s run just yet.  There has to be resolve some way as the story has gained steam in recent weeks.  A WWE

SmackDown contract is on the line for Slater if he wins the Tag Team Championships on Sunday.  Could we see him take matters into his own hands after Sunday?  Or, will Slater get signed regardless thanks to his perseverance?

This storyline for Slater may be just what he needs to get over on the main roster after so many failed attempts.  Many people can relate to the struggle he presents as just someone trying to get a good job to support their family.  Moreover, Slater is long overdue for a good run in WWE.  His promos with his “family” indicate that there is investment in the storyline.

All Signs Point to The Usos

The Usos were long overdue for a heel turn.  It was a good time for the turn, as it happened the best way possible.  American Alpha has a lot of popularity due to their tenure in NXT, so what better way for the Samoan twins to get heat by attacking the favorites to win the Tag Team tournament?

More than likely The Usos look to be the winners at WWE Backlash.  Winning the Championships will make the most sense in keeping their mean streak hot.  If the Usos are crowned Tag Team Champions, the “take no prisoners” attitude won’t be in vain.  On Talking Smack, Shane McMahon reported that Chad Gable would be out of action for two to four weeks.  It perfectly sets up The Usos to win Sunday as the twins would achieve what they set out to do.  When American Alpha does return, they will be gunning for them.

In addition, the Usos cost the team their chance at the Tag Team Championships.  If the Championships are in the twins’ possession, the idea presents that it could have very well belonged to American Alpha.  It shows potential to be a hot feud in the tag team scene and WWE certainly can’t go wrong with that.  Most of all, this is the best scenario and who doesn’t like a good and intense feud?  I’m ready, willing and Gable for this one.
