WWE: Four Horsewomen Continue to Change the Game

In case you haven’t noticed just yet, it is an amazing time to be a fan of women’s wrestling, especially in WWE.

Monday Night saw the first Women’s main event in almost twelve years with the WWE Raw Women’s Championship match between Charlotte and Sasha Banks.  The history has been built between these ladies to this point and it’s only going to get better from here.  We may have just seen what an iconic feud is for the new era.

While one chapter was going on, another chapter was written.  Dana Brooke would make the mistake of provoking Bayley, which led to her not being at ringside from the match courtesy of an attack.  This left Charlotte on her own, which she proved that she didn’t need anyone to put on an excellent performance.  During the match, Charlotte and Banks worked to outsmart the other.  But in the end, Banks would learn from her SummerSlam loss by turning the counter pins from the Banks Statement into another Banks Statement.

Monday night was a huge moment for the women of WWE, and it was clear that Banks is the face of the new era for the Women’s Division.  With main event opportunities scarce, both women made the most of their opportunity to tell their story in the ring.  Banks looked like the underdog with the larger than life cockiness of Charlotte that father Ric Flair can be proud of.  Charlotte’s ego clearly got the best of her in this match, allowing Banks to take advantage of the situation; something that has been demonstrated with their last Women’s Championship match on Raw in July.  The opportunities will continue to roll in for the Four Horsewomen, who found success on the main roster since last year.  WWE is invested in the women, and Monday night was a good indication that the future for Women’s wrestling in WWE is promising.

Banks may have won Monday night, but Charlotte has really come into her own being the least experienced of the Horsewomen.  Charlotte has owned her role as the top heel of the Raw Women’s Division, and continues to get better every time she steps in the ring.  Evolution is happening before our eyes with not just Charlotte, but all the women involved.  Brooke exercised a mean streak on Monday that is rarely seen.  Banks continues to give 100% in her matches; Becky Lynch is handling business as the face of SmackDown.  The rise of both Carmella and Alexa Bliss on Smackdown shows promise in the generation transition.

With Hell in a Cell coming up, rumors are running around that Banks and Charlotte could

possibly meet up inside the cell for the rematch of the Women’s Championship.  It’s something that has never been done in WWE before, and will add to the legacy of the Four Horsewomen.  If it happens, this will be monumental not just for them, but for the Women’s Division as a whole.  It will be a matter of time before women will headline a PPV, something else that hasn’t been done in WWE.
