Becky Lynch vs. Mickie James

Result: Becky Lynch defeats Mickie James via pinfall.

Rating: 3.0 out of 5 stars

Lynch and James kept the pace very slow in the first 10 minutes or so of action. After the somewhat slow Mojo Rawley vs. Curt Hawkins match, this wasn’t the best way of waking up the Phoenix, AZ crowd. They kept things steady with plenty of in-ring psychology on Lynch’s left arm, which is fine and makes for a logical wrestling match. However, it didn’t do much to keep the crowd into what was going on for a while.

Commentary didn’t have a great outing during this match either. It started with David Otunga referencing maybe two or three times that James has seven years of ring rust. Hey, WWE — it’s 2017 — fans are smarter than that. You can go on any wrestling database and find the matches she wrestled in TNA over multiple stints. So someone must have gotten into Vince McMahon’s ear and relayed this to JBL, who quickly said that James has competed elsewhere.

The action would pick up as this match continued. Most notably, James hit a terrific Mick Kick right on the button. Her and Lynch also traded a handful of quick offense before the latter got a quick jackknife cover for the win.

We’ll probably see this feud continue with how this match ended. James will seek revenge on Lynch soon, maybe by Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown.
