WWE has officially announced that Jack Swagger is no longer with the company.

Almost two weeks ago, we noted how Jack Swagger requested his release from the WWE, making it known to the public on Chael Sonnen’s podcast. However, it hadn’t been granted at the time the news came out.

Well, WWE made it official on Monday afternoon, announcing the release of Swagger on WWE.com. They did so with the following statement:

"WWE has come to terms on the release of Jack Swagger as of today, March 13, 2017. WWE wishes Swagger the best in all his future endeavors."

Swagger, whose real name is Jake Hager, competed in the WWE from 2006 until January of this year. His last match came on Jan. 23 at a WWE live event, teaming with Mojo Rawley to defeat the Vaudevillains. Before that, his last televised match on SmackDown Live came on Oct. 18, 2016. This saw Baron Corbin defeated the All-American American in the final match of their feud.

Swagger’s peak in WWE came in 2010, cashing in Money in the Bank to win the World Heavyweight Championship. He also fought for this belt at WrestleMania 29, losing to Alberto Del Rio. This eventually led to a tag team with Cesaro for a little under a year, both of whom were led by Dutch “Zeb Colter” Mantell.

Speaking of Mantell, now that he’s in Impact Wrestling, maybe he looks to bring in Swagger. the ties are not only there between the two, but a handful of wrestlers who appear on Impact Wrestling are previous WWE releases. So don’t be surprised if Mantell, Jeff Jarrett, Anthem and co. reach out to him.

Now that Jack Swagger is no longer with WWE, we should start seeing him pop up around other pro wrestling companies soon. It will be interesting to see how he fares, as he went straight from college to the WWE in 2006 without going through the independent scene. Given how someone like Cody Rhodes has fared since testing the non-WWE wrestling waters, maybe it’s a sign of good things to come for Swagger.
