WWE SummerSlam 2017: Could We See Shane McMahon Wrestle?

WWE SummerSlam is just around the corner, and there is a possibility that we could be seeing the SmackDown Live Commissioner, Shane McMahon, in action at the event.

WWE seems to always try their best to get a McMahon or some authority figure involved at their biggest events. Shane McMahon wrestled at the last Survivor Series, and Triple H and McMahon each had their own matches at WrestleMania 32 and 33.

With SummerSlam being advertised as such a monumental event of the Summer for WWE, they may want to add McMahon to the card in order to bring some familiarity to new and casual viewers that may want to tune in.

Also, it would be a good way to capitalize on the recent publicity he has gotten due to the helicopter crash landing he had been a victim of a few days ago. This could even be part of a storyline with his potential opponent.

On Twitter, a storyline has been developing but has yet to hit TV screens and actual WWE programming. Rusev made a demand for a WWE Championship opportunity that was ignored, then he posted this video.

While that ended up amounting to nothing, Rusev later tweeted, after the helicopter incident, about his disdain for the Prodigal Son of WWE:

This could potentially turn into a feud for SummerSlam since Rusev currently has no feud or storyline at the moment, and Shane could add some much-needed star power to SmackDown‘s portion of the match card.

However, the fact that WWE has yet to capitalize on the online tension between the two suggests that a program between the two, at least for now, seems unlikely. Although, McMahon could realistically go up against someone else at SummerSlam.

McMahon and Kevin Owens have shared some tense moments on some editions of Talking Smack, but WWE made the tension and disdain between the two even more apparent on this last episode of SmackDown.

Shane made a triple threat match between AJ Styles, Chris Jericho, and Owens for the US Championship, and Owens made it clear to McMahon that he did not like Shane, and Owens believed Shane made that match because Shane did not like him, either.

Shane even admitted that he did not like Owens, but explained that the match was made for the fans. The confrontation ended in a tense stare down before Owens left. Now that Kevin Owens ended up losing his title in that match, he has a reason to feud with McMahon.

Owens will have his rematch for the US Championship against AJ Styles on the next episode of SmackDown, and I have a feeling that Kevin Owens will unfairly lose that match (at least in his eyes at least) once again.

An outraged Owens will likely seek McMahon to change the decision or give him a rematch, but when McMahon does not oblige to Owens’ request, it could come to blows. This could then lead to a marquee matchup between KO and McMahon at SummerSlam.
