WWE Raw: Will Bray Wyatt Ever Be Relevant Again?
By Tom Thomas
What does the future hold for Bray Wyatt? Does he have a shot at redemption anywhere in the near future?
Bray Wyatt has been in the middle of a feud with Finn Balor over the summer. As good as this pairing could be, it could end in only one way – with Balor getting the win. This would in turn be yet another blemish on Wyatt’s career, which has been filled to the brim with losing big matches. Wyatt could potentially be on the path to yet another defeat unless creative has some last-minute changes for the potential SummerSlam match.
Wyatt has all the makings to be a mega star in the WWE. Especially, in today’s WWE without the Undertaker, the former Wyatt Family leader could be the next supernatural power to haunt the WWE universe. He has the natural charm and charisma of a cult leader. Moreover, Wyatt has one of the most captivating entrances in all of WWE. His connection with the fans is yet another plus point. However, Wyatt’s biggest mistake is the most important negative in his resume – lack of big wins.
The former WWE Champion is a former tag team champion and a WWE champion. However, the high points in his career are deeply overshadowed by the countless number of defeats he has endured. Moreover, in most of the feuds, Wyatt was the one to issue the challenge. The same has been the case in his recent feud with Balor as well. When you talk such a big game all the time but end up losing regardless, it doesn’t matter how charismatic you are, you end up as just another loud mouth.
Wyatt’s promos are still eerie and captivating at times. However, they tend to get repetitive over time. Moreover, the feeling in the mind of every fan is that despite all the talking he is capable of, Wyatt would lose in the end. Hence, his promos tend to get lifeless and dull and fail to extract any kind of response from the fans. Wyatt’s threats have reduced to jokes in effect. You just know he would never be able to do any of the things he says.
So how could creative repair his character? Giving him some big wins would be the obvious choice. However, at this point in his career, one or two big wins are just not enough to make the cut. In addition, he would need to drop his heel persona. Wyatt calls himself a God. A God doesn’t care about his persona or intimidating his targets. He only cares about getting what he wants. That should ideally be what Wyatt is all about.

Wyatt should evolve into an ungodly monster who targets heels and faces alike. In addition, at least for the time being, he needs to stop talking and repeating the same promos. A new persona of a silent protagonist could present Wyatt as the latest evolution of true evil. Imagine a repackaged Wyatt with some kind of face mask who wanders across the WWE Universe, picking on heels and faces alike until he gets what he wants.
An ideal starting point for this could be a program with the Miz. Yes, Miz is a heel and so is Wyatt. However, the WWE universe loves to cheer for one at the smallest opportunity and loves to boo the other every time. A menacing Wyatt haunting the Miz across the Raw roster room would make for interesting TV time. Moreover, the WWE universe would sock in every bit of this change in character shift for Wyatt. He could take out members of the Miztourage using his black magic methods and his army of sheep mask wearing men.
Then finally, when the time is right, Wyatt could finish off the job and be your new Inter Continental champion. From there, he could continue his menacing ways, picking on anyone and everyone in the roster. He could perhaps return to delivering eerie promos at this time perhaps. However, this push eventually has to result in a collision with the monster he once created – The Monster Among Men. After building Wyatt up as a credible monster and a viable threat him facing off against his greatest creation could make up for must see television.
