5. Lack of feuds outside the title picture in the Women’s division

The only match to come out of the Women’s division last night was the Women’s title match between Natalya and Charlotte. These two have strong chemistry and they always put on a fine performance. The same was the case last night too. Everything they did during the course of the match worked. Charlotte sold her leg injury like a real pro. I certainly do hope she did not have a legit injury at any point during the match.

Natalya to thrived as the cold and calculated heel champion. Unlike the WWE champion Jinder Mahal, she has solid wrestling skills and isn’t shy to work it into her act. She is a heel champion who is confident in her own abilities. She dominated the course of the match with such conviction that I felt happy to see creative backing her like this. The fact that this comes after many years of being mishandled by creative team adds to it.

But the biggest takeaway from the match is the creative’s inability to come up with meaningful feuds outside the title picture. It is as if the rest of the women on the roster have nothing else to fight for. Why not give them at least a spot on the pre-show? SmackDown Live‘s best attempts to involve more women on PPVs almost always results in a multi-women title defense match. I would have loved to see Lana and Tamina come out for a squash match during the pre-show. Even Becky Lynch trading blows with Carmella would have been nice. Creative still has much work to do as far as the Women’s division goes.
