Singles Match: AJ Styles vs. Brock Lesnar
When the pairings for Survivor Series were first announced, you could almost hear a collective groan from the WWE Universe when it came to brand champion versus brand champion match. The idea of a Jinder Mahal/Brock Lesnar showdown didn’t exactly have anybody in the Houston area sprinting to their computers to buy a ticket to the event.
More from WWE
- Trish Stratus on WWE NXT would help elevate that women’s division
- Randy Orton signs with SmackDown to go after The Bloodline
- WWE and AEW will put on a full court press for Kazuchika Okada in 2024
- The Judgment Day is the top faction story in WWE
- Liv Morgan vs Rhea Ripley is perfect for WWE Royal Rumble 2024
But when AJ Styles defeated Mahal to win the WWE Championship on November 7th, this match-up suddenly turned into a dream one. Styles, a 2-time WWE Champion, 5-time TNA Heavyweight Champion, and 2-time IWGP Heavyweight champion, taking on a former UFC Heavyweight Champion, former IWGP Heavyweight Champion, and 5-time WWE Champion in Lesnar, could’ve single handedly made Survivor Series a must-see event.
Sure, maybe Lesnar can’t perform the way he used to. Gone are the days for 20-30 minute matches and in are hard-hitting 10-15 minute ones. But if anybody is going to get a classic out of Lesnar these days, it’s going to be Styles. He’s a once in a generation-type talent and has the ability to make every match incredible. And that’s not to take anything away from Lesnar these days. “The Beast” stepping into the ring is an event all on it’s own and with with an opponent of this magnitude, this will undoubtedly be a special moment.
It almost doesn’t matter who wins. Just the fact that these two are squaring off is important enough to wrestling fans. However, there has to be a winner unless the WWE plans to do a double count-out or double disqualification and that would be a huge cop-out. Someone needs to get the pin yet leave both guys looking strong as world champions. Look for Styles to give Lesnar the match of his life but ultimately fail due to some type of interference by Jinder Mahal.
Winner: Brock Lesnar
