WWE WrestleMania 34: Styles vs. Nakamura Must Go On Last

A dream match of sorts will take place at WWE WrestleMania 34 when AJ Styles defends his WWE Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura in what promises to be a WrestleMania classic.

There is still over two weeks until WWE WrestleMania 34, but the one match that everybody is looking forward to is The Phenomenal One vs. The King Of Strong Style.  This match has happened before, but seeing it at a WrestleMania for the WWE Championship takes things to another level.

The card is taking shape nicely for WrestleMania 34 with many intriguing matches already lined up.  Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns, Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka, Kurt Angle and Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, and others should make the show captivating.

But the match every fan immediately thinks of when thinking about the card for WrestleMania 34 has been Styles vs. Nakamura and will remain that.  These two world-class performers should put together a match for the ages that will leave fans overwhelmed with happiness.

More from WrestleMania

While they will still put on a great match regardless of where the match ends up on the card, there’s one caveat that needs to accompany this match.  Reigns has main evented the past three WrestleMania’s and has done a stellar job as a whole in doing so.

However, that trend needs to end at WrestleMania 34.  Not even superstars the caliber of The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, and others have main evented four straight WrestleMania’s, which Reigns could do this year.

Lesnar and Reigns should be viewed at as a marquee match at the show, but it does not need to go on last and legitimately main event the show.  That honor should go to Styles and Nakamura, and it’s pretty obvious.

How many times over the years has a main event-caliber match not gone on last at WrestleMania and instead, that honor went to a match that didn’t deliver the goods?  It’s happened several times over the years.

Lesnar vs. Reigns should be a very good match if Lesnar gives effort and the match goes beyond his usual, status quo performance.  But will it outshine Styles vs. Nakamura?  Probably not.

If for nothing else, the WWE Championship match should close the close due to the simple fact that probably no other match will be able to follow it.  Instead of worrying about putting the perceived new face of the WWE in the last match, the WWE should worry about putting the best match on last.

Give Styles and Nakamura a solid 25-30 minute match and see what magic the two can carve up in the main event.  Vince McMahon doesn’t particularly care for putting “non-WWE” guys on in a platform of this magnitude, but times need to change.

Another reason why this match should go on last is because Lesnar vs. Reigns main evented WrestleMania 31 just three years ago.  The feud is taking some positive turns this year, but let’s be honest, not many are overly excited about this match.

In fact, many are dreading at the possibility of another Reigns coronation closing out the biggest show of the year.   So, what better way to remedy this situation than save the best for last?  Nothing against what Lesnar and Reigns can realistically do, but they won’t be able to do what Styles and Nakamura will do.

The WWE needs to put out a fresh, exciting match to main event its biggest show of the year.  After all, The Phenomenal One and The King Of Strong Style are two of the most over superstars in the WWE today and are universally recognized in an elite group of current pro wrestlers.

So, why not run with them?  Give them the platform to shine brighter than ever before and let them make history.  This isn’t a match that can open up the show and this isn’t a match that can be thrown on somewhere in the middle of the card.

It’s a match that has to be in a true main event position.  Think about the reaction the WWE universe will give Styles vs. Nakamura if Nakamura gets his big coronation rather than the same ole same ole by closing out the show with Reigns winning the Universal Championship.
