NJPW Wrestling Dontaku 2018 Night 1: Review, Grades, and Analysis
Bullet Club (Tanga Loa, Tama Tonga, & Bad Luck Fale) (c) vs. Bullet Club (Marty Scurll, Nick Jackson, Matt Jackson) – The NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Titles
The first of several matches featuring The Bullet Club civil war. Everyone is quite outsized by Bad Luck Fale, and Fale dominates Scurll in the early portions of the match. Scurll tried to body slam Fale. You can imagine this was a funny visual. The champs tried to use their superior size to keep the advantage over the smaller men.
The Bucks and Scurll manage to stay ahead of them with faster paced offence. Scurll did the finger break spot with Fale, and that hurts the big man. The Bucks follow with some crazy high flying offence to the outside and they hit a More Bang for Your Buck on Tanga Loa for the pinfall! We have new champions.
Result: The Young Bucks & Marty Scurll
Rating: 3.25 stars out of 5
This was an excellent tag match. All six men played their roles perfectly, and the title switch seems to be the right call with The Bucks moving up to heavyweight. After the match, Fale ripped the belts away from the referee and the OG Bullet Club handed them over to The Elite here with no issues.
It seems the story of the Tongan faction within Bullet Club having no issues with either side in this civil war continues. Could this be a sign that some of the wounds are starting to heal? Regardless, The Bullet Club walked out with both these teams being a bit more unified than they have been as late. The OG Bullet Club has maintained a position of not taking sides, and it seems to have worked with them managing to stay friendly with both Team Cody and Team Kenny. Although, Strong Style Evolved showed that the Tongans had several problems with Cody and less with Omega.
If they had to choose a side, they would say they chose “Bullet Club” and if anything, as we find out later, that choice for Bullet Club is clearly Kenny Omega.
