WWE Raw: Is It Time For Another Attempted Shield Reunion?

With both Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins lacking any clear direction on WWE Raw, is it time to attempt another Shield run in the WWE?

WWE Raw tonight will have the fans searching for clues as to what lies ahead for its top stars. Former members of The Shield and top babyfaces Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns both endured painful defeats last night at Extreme Rules. It seems more than likely that Reigns will not be contending for the WWE Universal title as a result. As for Rollins, his stint in the IC title picture might have come to a halt after last night’s heartbreak defeat.

That said, this leaves the two babyfaces who are superstars in their own individual rights without any clear direction or motive. It is normal for creative to put them back into a tag team in this scenario under most cases. But in this case, this is not any normal tag team we are talking about. It’s The Shield!

Time and hardcore fan bases have turned one of the best booked trios in the history of WWE into a thing of myths and legends. Any time you say the words ‘Shield’ and ‘reunion’, sparks are bound to fly. Immediately fans begin to speculate on how to reach that point and even in some cases, how the eventual disbanding would happen.

In this case however, before the ‘how’ lies the ‘why’. Both Reigns and Rollins have tried to claim the gold and keep it in their own ways. Needless to say, they both did not succeed in the long-term. Moreover, Reigns’s attempts at winning the Universal Championship have all ended with him perishing in defeat. As for Rollins, the Architect could have realized after last night that no matter how much heart and guts you have, the numbers game does matter in the end.

This is reason enough for the two to join hands for obvious reasons going forward. But what about Dean Ambrose? The Lunatic Fringe might be out at least until after SummerSlam according to WrestleVotes on Twitter.

This would essentially allow Reigns and Rollins to set into a two-man tag team mentality and head into a feud in the said direction or simply to engage in multiple singles feuds. They could even target the tag team titles for the moment, which could climax at SummerSlam this year. Then, a returning Dean Ambrose could complete the reunion while he chases the Universal title or the IC title (kind of like the old days when Dean was the singles champion in the group).

It wouldn’t be bad to even consider bringing back the heel version of the stable. After all, the beloved trio was always famous for doing what they do best without caring about the fans or pandering to the live crowd. This would also bring some edge back to all three members of the stable.

With so much possibly lying ahead, one has to wonder whether it’s time to attempt another Shield reunion on Raw. Of course, the last run would obviously leave a bad taste in creative’s mouth considering how after so much hype and build up, injuries and illness prevented the reunion from getting anywhere properly. But hey, third time could be the charm. You never know.
