NJPW G1 Climax 28 Night 4: Review, Grades, and Analysis
Final Thoughts
Show Rating: 4.5 stars out of 5
This was another excellent G1 show, with only 4 shows in and we already have 4 matches that could easily take the title of “Best Match of the Tournament.” NJPW has really gone all in on making Omega the top guy right now, and it’s paying off nicely. He has already produced two incredible matches. With his win over Goto, Omega might be challenging for the NEVER Openweight Championship. That title is one of the few that Omega hasn’t held in NJPW. The only other title he hasn’t held is the IWGP Tag Team Championship, and given his reuniting with Kota Ibushi, I think it’s likely he holds it sometime in 2019. This would make Omega one of the top guys in NJPW.

Regardless, it is very interesting to think of the IWGP Heavyweight Champion challenging for another title and trying to become a duel champion. That’s something that would be very significant in NJPW, as it happens so rarely. Meanwhile, Tetsuya Naito has managed to find some redemption after his loss to Kenny Omega on night 2. Defeating Tomohiro Ishii is no small feat, and Naito looks to be a force to reckon with in the tournament going forward.
The same could be said for Kota Ibushi, who has now picked up his second win in the tournament. In defeating Juice Robinson, Ibushi is now in line for a US title shot. If he chooses to challenge for the US title, we can expect another excellent match. Robinson has become one of the better all-round wrestlers in NJPW, and Kota Ibushi is one of the very best in the world. NJPW has a great lineup of matches going forward.

What’s next for Kenny Omega? Tama Tonga. In a Battle of the Bullet Club, these two meet once again in the G1. Last year saw Omega emerge victorious, but this year things are different. With Bad Luck Fale and Tanga Loa in his corner, Omega might have the odds stacked against him. You know that this one is going to be one to watch. Bullet Club is fine now, but NJPW has made is clear nothing everything is quite okay.
