Heel Randy Orton is back, and if you have a problem with that then he will rip your ear off. Literally, apparently.

The bulk of SmackDown Live was built around the rematch between Shinsuke Nakamura and Jeff Hardy for the United States Title. The two both had promos building this up, with Jeff Hardy having a good promo to open the show, and Nakamura having a later promo where he said the line of the night for me: “God bless America.”
This was a good main event match for SmackDown, with the two having a good back and forth encounter. The finish came with Jeff Hardy seemingly having the match won after hitting a Swanton Bomb on Nakamura, but being pulled out of the ring “from out of nowhere” by Randy Orton.
The beat down that followed this was absolutely brutal. Orton would beat Hardy down, and while having him on the ground, Orton put his finger through the piercing in Jeff’s ear lobe and pulling on it. Orton would send one final exclamation point by hitting a draping DDT off the announcers table to the floor.

Randy was so great here. By the standards of what a beat down angle is in the PG era, this blew everything else away. This was vicious. Whoever’s idea it was to have Orton tug on Jeff’s pierced ear lobe deserves all the praise in the world.
