Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns, Universal Championship

The BEAST INCARNATE vs. The BIG DOG! Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns has taken place at three separate occasions: WrestleMania 31, WrestleMania 34, and Greatest Royal Rumble. Now, it’s happening once again at the biggest event of the summer: SummerSlam. Many WWE fans are fed up with seeing the same two people feud for the universal title over and over again. I certainly don’t blame these fans, but I can definitely bring some light to this situation.

First, Roman became #1 contender for Brock’s Universal Title at SummerSlam because he still has unfinished business with Brock. The only conclusive match Brock and Roman experienced one-on-one was at WrestleMania 34 where Brock decisively retained the Universal Championship with six F-5’s and left Roman in a heap. WrestleMania 31 ended in Seth Rollins’ MITB cash-in and The Greatest Royal Rumble ended in a steel cage match technicality.

At the Greatest Royal Rumble, Roman became the uncrowned Universal Champion since there was a technicality as to who won the cage match. Since Roman speared Brock through the steel cage, Brock was inadvertently out of the steel cage first, but Roman’s feet hit the floor first. According to steel cage match rules, the superstar whose feet hit the floor first wins the match.

However, the referee was not able to see anyone’s feet from his position in the spur of the moment, so he called out the winner of the match based on who was out of the cage first. In other words, Roman got robbed, and he is entitled to redeem himself. This is good storytelling, despite the fact that these two have faced each other continually. Due to such an inconclusive result, a rematch is appropriately booked for these two athletes at SummerSlam.

Secondly, Bobby Lashley’s failure to become #1 contender could be a blessing in disguise. WWE could be stalling a Brock Lesnar-Bobby Lashley Universal Title feud for WrestleMania. Indeed, it’s pretty disappointing that Lashley is apparently left out of the SummerSlam card, but it could be a sacrifice for bigger plans for him down the line. His purpose for coming to the WWE was to be the one to beat Brock and become Universal Champion. That storyline must be protected for Lashley’s sake, which could only mean one thing: Brock retains!

No one wants to hear that, but everyone should BELIEVE THAT! Brock has been the most dominant champion in WWE, despite his part-time schedule and long-term absence. Many fans want to see Brock lose the Universal Championship because they want a fighting main card champion who battles day in and day out, just like WWE Champion AJ Styles from SmackDown Live.

However, a win over Brock is supposed to be very special, mind-blowing, unpredictable, and memorable when considering his reputation as THE ONE who conquered the Undertaker’s undefeated WrestleMania streak and THE BEAST who became the longest reigning main card champion of the modern era. It needs a similar reaction to when Goldberg defeated Brock at Survivor Series 2016. Thus, I do not foresee Roman being THE GUY to get the job done because the majority of fans are not as invested in Roman, and he would not get the reaction that is deserving of beating Brock.

More from Daily DDT

I actually foresee Monster in the Bank Braun Strowman getting the job done with a MITB cash-in after Brock is winded from battling with Roman. Indeed, the majority of fans are much more invested in Braun, and he would most certainly get the reaction that is deserving of beating Brock. On top of that, this is strong booking for everyone.

Roman will be seen as the superstar who pushed Brock to his furthest limits, which not a lot of superstars can do. Brock will look strong after retaining against Roman and he won’t look weak getting pinned by Braun since he’s already severely hurt from his war with Roman. Lashley will even look strong since Roman will have not beaten Brock before him in a one-on-one match; he can still win the Universal Title down the road to defend it against Brock at WrestleMania 35 and achieve his primary goal of defeating him once and for all.

Finally, Braun will be our Universal Champion by the end of the night, sending the fans home happy for three reasons: (1) Roman loses, (2) Brock-Roman saga is finally over due to a conclusive match result, and (3) Brock loses the title.

Besides, Brock is only capable of losing a championship title via a MITB cash-in in the modern era, as evidenced by Seth Rollins’ heist of the century back at WrestleMania 31. The only difference this time is that he’s going to actually get pinned by Braun to lose the title and propel Braun to a more meaningful pedestal in his absence. This is honestly what makes Brock a special Universal Champion; he can help define moments that will be remembered forever. Braun pinning Brock to become universal champion will certainly not be forgotten, and he will forever be known as the Monster Among Men and BEAST. That is not even a prediction. That’s a SPOILER!
